I had went to this site ( http://www.carvinchecks.com ) to check on the vin # to see if there were any problems with the car because carfax.com was too expensive. This is what I agreed to, For $2.95 they would run a 1 time check. Now I have a $29.95 charge on my CC. When I called my CC company they told me that I had to call them first to try and resolve the charge. when I call the # 1-866-610-0652 a recording comes on and says " That is not assigned yet" and hangs up.

total rip off

this site is a total rip off. i put all my info in thinking i was going to be charged 2.95 a one time fee. when i saw they were going to charge me $29.95 i quickly went back and erased all my info card # and all, was still charged on my bank account.never received a thing. I called Regions bank they said they are investigating several complaints, and are turning the matter over to the feds.

The cancellation phone number is invalid

The rebuttal by the Carvinchecks is interesting in that they post the TOS and place blame on the complainant for not contacting them to cancel their account within 3 days. It is interesting because I decided to call the 866 phone number only to hear the message that the phone number is not in service. Evidently, this company has intentionally created a roadblock in order to realize more fee's.

This is not the first RipOff report complaint made against this company. In fact, the other complaint is for the exact same issue: inability to cancel.

Hopefully, someone with more executive power sees these reports and will bring charges against the owners of the company.

In the meantime, It would be in your best interest, complainant, to contact your credit card company and let them know your situation so you can get your money back. Also, I would highly recommend reports to the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission.

Obviously, the rebuttal filed by the Carvinchecks.com shows how arrogant and dishonest they choose to be. For what its worth, I will be making the competing companies aware of the practices by carvinchecks.com so they have ammunition to steer consumers away from carvinchecks.com.

The Number that is on the site as well as the #'s on the statement are all false you are unable to call them. Tried for 3 days at all different times of the day and evening. It still says, "This is not assigned yet" and hangs up on you. There is no contact e-mail or anything. So, as a consumer, we are all getting screwed! I did forget to mention that I had attempted to contact them to let them know that I was not wanting their $29.95 service and that I had agreed to the $2.95 only but was unsuccessful in getting in contact with anyone. This is why I was so upset that I had gotten the charge and had come to report them to save others the hassle and the $29.95 donation to them and their crap service!

Actually, you agreed to all the terms below (from their "Terms")

d. Fees, Refunds & FraudEvaluate our service for 3 days. If you are satisfied with our reports, do nothing and you will be automatically be signed up to our members only area which allows you to perform 4 (four) Car Vin Checks each month for $24.95 on your statement as carvinchecks.com. Unless we indicate otherwise, all fees and charges are final, with no refunds.
