Cat's Meow Confusing and misleading internet order interface apparently is designed to cause inadvertent doubling of order amount Internet

Saw TV infomercial, went to website to place order. Order process is confusing and ambiguous as to whether the purchase quantity is a single item, or a "free second item, just pay extra S&H" - there truly is no way of telling the exact quantity you are ordering, and they in fact take two runs at it to maximize the chances that you will take the bait and inadvertently order double what you had intended. In retrospect, it's obvious that the ambiguity is intentional, designed to confuse and defraud. Unlike any normal, ethical online store they never give you the opportunity to review and correct your order before you "pull the trigger" - if you naively assume that thay ARE a normal, ethical establishment and proceed to what would be expected to be the confirmation screen, you are greeted with the message that your order has been placed. I am retired/disabled and do almost all of my shopping on the Internet, so I am no rookie in these matters. I'm also of well-above-average intelligence (I belong to the Triple Nine Society, far more exclusive than Mensa) and yet I was still deceived by these cretins. It is obvious (now) that their order interface is INTENTIONALLY designed to trick folks into spending more than they planned to, there's no way it could accidentally be so severely flawed. Even if one were to take the minimum-cost option at every turn, I suspect they would still be overcharged.

When you attempt to contact their "Customer Service" folks by phone you are diverted to another website which is ostensibly dedicated to that function but is in fact obviously designed to stall any action you might take to cancel the transaction. They claim it may take several days for your order to show up in the Customer Service database and advise you to make continued inquiries until it does...meanwhile giving them time to process your Credit/Debit card before you can alter or cancel the order.

Because they're three timezones away, I cannot contact the company until 5:00 AM my-time. but I have my alarm clock set and intend to do so. If I in any way felt that the problem was due to my ineptitude, all I'd be asking them for is that my order be modified...cut in half, to what I THOUGHT I had purchased. But since this is obviously an unethical, scurrilous business I will instead demand that the entire transaction be voided. I've already done an online bank transfer to drain the account to which the debit card is linked, so these thieves shouldn't be able to get to my money, but something should be done to protect the public from scoundrels such as these.
