I went to file for credit and noticed that I had this bogus collection on my credit report from CBA (Collection Bureau of America). It says I owe them a charge of $150 which is past due as of Sept. 2008, for AT&T - California. First of all... I've never had an account with or applied for service with AT&T. So how did I end up with this bogus charge on my credit report. Someone must have used my social security number. I have filed a dispute through experian which it has shown up on.

I am being reported as owing $146.00 for an account I did not open.
I did own a bussiness by the name of Country Bargains which I conveyed to Annie Lawson
She took on a new partner by the name of Joe Chavez
According to Charter Communications records Annie Lawson signed for the account.
I would like my name cleared with the credit reporting bureau, and notification of same action forwarded to me ASAP.

I also noticed that CBA Collection Bureau had negative item on my credit report with Experian. Time Warner was the original creditor. I have never opened an acct. with them. CBA took my Social Security number and said" Your not this person who opened this acct?" The amount owed by this unknown person was $231.00.They are making it real had for me to take this item off. It does not belong to me and they know it!. Experian notified them. CBA stated, we make a mistake and i had to file a dispute with them. Well i let them know i am real angry, with there mickey mouse mistakes. I have sent them two notices to remove this unknown item concerning time warner. I filed a complaint with Time Warner, Experian, and two (2) with CBA Collection Bureau. They are playing around with the wrong person and better correct their mistake on my credit report! I will take further action. I have read a lot of the same problems. pls respond.

Bottom feeding junk debt collectors have a tactic of telling you that identity theft is involved when this is not the case...If you file a police report and fax that info to them, they may use the info you provided against you.

I feel for you. I have been dealing with them for the past 3 months with no solution. They also placed a collection from a water company onto my credit report. The account belong to another person with a similar name. I called several times to get this cleared up and kept getting transferred to the fraud rep. This was not fraud but just a mistaken on their part. I asked for a debt validation and was refused indicating that I had requested one back 2 years prior. Which was not true. The Fraud rep is very rude and no help at all. She sent me papers inquiring about a fraud and if i had filled a report with the police depart. I was confused because this was not fraud this account belong to someone with a similiar name but with a different social. dob, and license number. Finally I called the company that the collection agency said this was for and I requested a copy the contract that this person had signed. I explained to the rep what was going on and she was very helpful. She faxed me a copy of the contracty which clearly had the other person personal information and showed that this was not my account. I have since then sent it to the Collection agency and am awaiting for their responce. So, I would recommend that you first attempt to get a debt validation from the Collection agency or contact ATT and request a copy of the contrac that was signed. You should have the account number from you collection bill. It is just ridiculous that these collection agencies are not researching this information properly.
