CCS Creditors Collection ServiceCCS Harassment/Threats/Bogus Debt Needham Massachusetts

I have been receiving calls from CCS at 877-289-0302 on a daily basis for weeks. Sometimes more then once a day. I have also received messages to call CCS back for "an important business reason".

I finally decided to call them back and find out what was so urgent. My first call got me an evasive and rude woman. She asked for my phone #. I gave it to her. She asked for my name and I asked what company she was with. She said she couldn't give me any information without me confirming who I was. I said "well, you called me". I finally gave my name out of curiosity. She asked me to confirm my address and I said I wouldn't give it to her. She read it off and at first I said that was correct. She told me she was collecting a debt, then I said, wait could you repeat that address and she said "you just confirmed it". I said I know, but now I'm thinking maybe I didn't hear right because I don't think I owe any money. She refused to re-read the address. She starting threatening legal action and when I asked her to transfer me to a supervisor, she hung up.

I called back. This time they man told me they were a collection agency. He was nicer, but not much more helpful. He said I owed $37.46 to Hollywood Video and that if I didn't pay immediately, it would effect my credit rating. I explained that I have never been to Hollywood Video. He told me that was my issue and I need to pay. He finally told me that if I wanted to contest it, then I would have to write them a formal letter. He gave me the PO box and actually asked again if I wanted to pay it!! I said I didn't owe anything. He said you must send the letter or contact Hollywood Video.

I promptly hung up and called Hollywood Video. A very nice and helpful woman in collections put my phone # into her system and found nothing. She even searched by my name and address and said I was nowhere in there system and that I obviously didn't owe any money.

I tried to call CSS back, but strangely, the two times I tried, I got disconnected.

I plan to write them a "formal" letter to contest this debt tomorrow.
