On 04/30/2007 I was admitted to Chandler Regional Hospital to have an out-patient surgery done.

After my visit I received a bill from the hospital with the remaining balance amount on my account. My total bill was $1,001.15 after my insurance had paid their portion. I wasn't expecting this much due for my personal cost and I couldn't afford to pay it.

I called the number at the bottom of the bill under Payment Assistance. When I called the Payment Assistance number I spoke with an individual that stated if I could afford to pay half of the total bill within 30 days of my invoice date (05/11/2007) then the remaining balance would be waived. I paid $501.00 on 06/08/2007 and was told by a different individual that the remaining balance would be waived. I had two different associates tell me that I would only be responsible for half of the bill if I paid 50% within 30 days.

However, that was untrue.

About a month later I received a bill from Chandler Regional Hospital stating that I still owed $500.15. Confused by this because of what I was earlier told, I contacted the company that I spoke to previously and spoke to a supervisor. She had said that I still need to pay the full amount and that Chandler Hospital only offers that deal if you don't have insurance. I asked her when she found that out, and she said that 2 days after I gave them my payment, Chandler Hospital denied the offer. I was also told that the 2 different associates who spoke to me were mistaken and shouldn't have given me that offer.

I feel that since I was given an offer by a company that Chandler Hospital uses for their billing, then they should honor what I was told. I had to borrow the money, and if I had known that I was going to be responsible for the whole amount I would have set up a payment plan that I could afford. Chandler Hospital is now threatening to turn me over to collections in regards to this matter.

I feel that Chandler Hospital and the company that they subcontract their billing out to are using unethical ways to receive money out of individuals who can not afford it. I am very unhappy with them and had I known that this was the way I was going to be treated, I would have went somewhere else.

I did not ask for the offer of 50% it was presented to me.

If you don't they'll just deny that any discount or settlement terms were offered and come after you for the full amount.
