We owned a membership with the Freedom Boat club for one year. We sold it after one year due to lack of interest in the club. We called the club in April of 2008 to see what we could do to sell and the clubs owner told us that if we were to produce a cash buyer that he would completely waive the $750 transfer fee. We have a former employee who is willing to testify to this and in fact wrote a testimony for us.

We negotiated a sale based on that information and determined our price. We then acquired a buyer for the membership who would pay it off in full for the price of $12,000. Our balance due at the time of sale was exactly 9,152.82. The club even acknowledged this. However, after they realized the amount of money we were to receive they kept our $750 citing they didn't realize they would be "REFUNDING" so much money to us.

At first they were willing to waive the fee. They included it in their initial paperwork to us, but they screwed up on our refund amount and instead of sending us $2,847.18 they sent us a check for only $554.86 (citing that we owed them over $3000 in interest for the year, which was all the interest for the whole 5 years financed into 12 months). We were baffled, we kept calling them saying, our payoff should have been somewhere around $8500? where is our money. The closing paperwork showed we owed them $11,445.14 **which by the way, did NOT INCLUDE the transfer fee**.

When we persisted and continued to get the run around from the two owners they finally relented and admitted that they had made a mistake with the financing, but now that they had to REFUND to us so MUCH MORE money that they were no longer going to waive the transfer fee. We complained and complained and threatened to take it public via RipOff Report. Then we got a letter from their attorney threatening a law suit. Wow, great customer service.

They finally gave us another $1,642.32 thinking they were being generous with $100 of the supposed transfer fee being release. They are still holding or stealing $650 of our money CLAIMING that IT IS the transfer fee that belongs to them. I don't know how they sleep at night. They agreed to give us what they owe us if we promised to not talk about this publicly, however, the truth is the truth and I have at least that on my side. If they had GIVEN me the money I would have nothing to talk about now would I??

I would never trust them again with anything of mine including a dead plant.
