Cingular Wireless biggest corp ripoff I've ever seen! Brandon Florida

I'm not sure if you're aware but Cingular charges for both outgoing and incoming text messages. Although you seem fairly certain that neither you or your daughter used that many messages, I can tell you from experience with a teenager that 2,200 messages (both incoming and outgoing) is not that unusual or even extreme. And 66 per day (both incoming and outgoing) is also not unusual or extreme.

One conversation (yes beleive it or not, teenagers hold complete conversations this way) can include 20 or more messages (both incoming and outgoing)

The bottom line is that they are not ripping you off and you are not likely to win this battle. Your best bet will be to make arrangements to pay the bill. Sorry

I had paid of an additional text messages on both our phones. I had checked my daughters phone on a daily basis to make sure she didn't go over the limit. Her total was only 220 for the month. Not only did they do it to her.....THEY DID IT TO MINE ALSO!

The second month my phone was hit with over 1800 text messages! I checked my phone and I only had 240 for 2 months! These charges they could not explain and to this day, will not make an attempt on explaining it to me. UNACCEPTABLE! If they expect someone to pay a bill like that? I want to see proof! BLACK AND WHITE! They sent me a break down of charges.....over 57 pages of unexplainable griberish! Total text messages for 2 phones for 2 months = 4000???? I think not!

When I explained to them that I had proof on my phones, they told me that "it means nothing to them.....pay the bill!" I went thru the BBB and got no where. Every email that cingular sent back was the exact same as the one before...now for which the BBB will not help anymore. I've even contacted the corporate offices and was told in more words than one "tough!"

4000 text messages divided by 2 phones = 2000. 2000 divided by 30 days = 66 text messages per day!!! never happened!

and it is a moneymaker for the cell phone services. Did your daughter make that many text messages? Do you know? And if you know she did not, how will you prove that? The $400 is a termination fee which, I am sure, is stipulated in your contract. Did you CAREFULLY read AND UNDERSTAND the contract before you signed it?

Not paying the cell bill (if you cannot quickly document their overcharges) will do you no good but only harm unless you want to spend 5 years stiffing them for 'their' money plus spend another several years with a bad credit rating. This is your choice, but at best it is being between a rock and a hard place.

Cell phones are great to have, but careful management of their use is MANDITORY. Maybe you did not properly instruct your daughter? Maybe you did not read about what how much each text message costs and your daughter made a LOT of them? Only you might know.

Some cell phone companies are now offering "unlimited" text messaging but I do not know any details. I am sure that there are some hidden billing traps somewhere in the contract.

I carry a cell phone but I seldom use it. Few people have the number because I use that phone only for important situations. I carry it "off" (powered down) except when I wish to use it or when I expect an important call.
