I'm in the process of purchasing a new home. When the lender ran my credit, I found out there is a collection on my report from CitiBank in the amount of $3241.00. I have never applied for a credit card from CitiBank. I called CitiBank and they have no record of my SSN in their system. I'm disputing this of course, but I am seriously angered by this erroneous information being reported on my credit. How can CitiBank Credit Bureau even put something on my credit report; I've never had an account with CitiBank!

Hello Tay,

It sounds like someone may have opened up a credit card in your name using your personal information. I hope this isn't the case with you,but alot of time's it family that open up accounts in their relatives names without their permission. Is it a recent collection? I am surprised collections didn't locate a phone number to reach you, but that does happen sometimes. If the account was sold to a collection agency, your social may not be in their system. I do hope everything works our for you

Are you sure CitiBank did this? This sounds like something a junk debt collection agency would do. Read the notation more closely to see if there's more info that identifies the company that put the negative mark on your file.

Send a debt validation request via Registered Mail with Return receipt to all credit bureaus that are reporting this negative item...If it comes back validated you have to fight them.
