clay cooley- arlington rip-off. overprised vehicle at 20,000 when market value is only 13,000. car is not certified. Got me a high interest loan that i am unable to refinance because of the overprised vehicle and lack of certification. I specifically asked sales rep that we were not interested in a vehicle that sold above market value and she said she had checked and was selling it to us at market value. a lie, it was (8,000) above. arlington Texas

we wanted to purchase a better vehicle just after i had completed school. I went to a toyota dealership and was asked to come back after i had worked my current job for atleast three months then they could finance me.  About week latter i got a letter from clay cooley promising a 3,000 tradein value for my car.  i decided to go.  On meeting the sales rep i asked that she check the book value of the car and let me know because i was not interested in purchasing any vehicle above market value.  She left and after a little while she came back and said that she had checked and the car was at market value.  I believed her LIE.  Since i did not have sufficient credit i was given an interest rate of 14 %. I spoke to her about the posibility of refinancing the vehicle and she assured me that there was no problem. I was not too concerned with the interest rate, i figured that with good payment history i should be able to refinance in a year.  After a few hours negotiation i handed in my old car keys and drove home in the "new" car.  i  have been making good payments for the past year on this vehicle.  when i went to refinance at a credit union, i was told that my credit had significantly improved that i could get an interest rate of as low as 7%.  The problem was that my car was overprised! after making payments of 430 a month for a full year i still owed a little over 19,000.  The second problem is that it is not certified.  that price for an as is car is way off. The market value of the car was only 12,000. Basically i gave up my old car for nothing and still paid over 6,000 above the retail price because of false advertising and lies.  I am a middle class  family man working hard to provide for his family.  I would like to build my credit and pay my debts.  Yet what clay cooley did to me has robbed me of the oppotunity to refince at a better interest rate and put distrust in my heart.  I would have liked to have been aswered truthfully so i could make an informed decition on whether or not to purchase that vehicle or view my other options such as waiting a little longer to do so at the dealership.  Please advice me if there is a thing i can do about my situation.  I am dealing with disappointment over what clay cooley did to make a sale and i know this is the only and last time i will do business with them.  i would appreciate any and all the help i could get on this.

Thank You

Mimi

Clay Cooley Car Dealerships

AUTHOR: R. Ramirez - ()

POSTED: Saturday, August 31, 2013

Mimi,

I have read your story which is similar to that of dozens, if not hundreds of other complaints against the Cooley Enterprise. Simply stated, and coming from a family of car dealers, you were grossly taken advantage of because of your bad credit.

Anyone walking in to a Clay Cooley car dealership, needs to understand that Clay Cooley Enterprises make a HUGE amount of money off of the minorities in Dallas and they want you to walk in with bad credit so they can self finance you at the high interest rates. Not only did you pay $8,000 above the market rate, you got screwed paying more the double on your interest rate.

In the car business, car dealers get substantial rebates from the car manufacturers so the more cars Cooley can sell, the bigger his rebate will be. Additionally, most car dealers will either self finance, or have a credit line at the bank. A credit line at the bank may cost Cooley about 4%-5% interest per year. It makes it extremely profitable to grossly overcharge on the cost of the vehicle, which helps his bottom line, it also allows him to either self-finance or sell off the debt. Either way, the only winner is Cooley and the only loser is you.

The Cooleys have a substantial amount of Complaints against them for many things, including cases like yours. Cooley is earning so much money that he has been able to take over even more car dealerships and buy a bigger and better home at a cost of well over $6,000,000. You and the other people should drive past the Cooley mansion located at: 4252 Cochran Chapel, Dallas, Texas 75029.

Cooley is so busy that he was even held in Contempt of Court for failing to show up to serve his time as a juror. He has enough money to avoid his civic duty to pay off his civil contempt fine.

My suggestion is that you, and ANY other disatisfied Clay Cooley customers, start filing complaints with the various agencies if you feel you are the victim of fraud and possibly racial profiling. When enough Complaints come in, hopefully the State Attorneys office, or DA's office will carefully review them collectively. If all else fails, enough complaints to 20/20 or 60 Minutes, etc. may help.

Mimi:

The sleazy American car business has earned its reputation.  All of us need to keep that in mind when we need to do business with these people.  The words "trust", "integrity" and "honesty" don't belong in any sentence containing "car dealer".  There are a few who actually practice integrity, but very few.  When we do our homework and know the answer BEFORE we ask the question, then we can catch them in a lie and then WALK OUT.

Moral responsibility or None. You Decide

AUTHOR: Mimi - ()

POSTED: Sunday, August 25, 2013

Jim, thank you for your insight.  It is true that i did not know the true value of the vehicle. As matter of fact i do know much about vehicles and their pricing. which is the reason i specifically requested the sales Rep to pull up its market value report for me.  she had a moral responsibility to give an honest answer to a straight question.

Her LIE goes to show that clay Cooley feels no  responsibility for anyone beyond itself and beyond the profit it will make off of YOU. When i went there i figured they are areputable dealership that would make a full disclosure especially after a direct request. I was wrong, clay cooley will do anything to make a quick sale regardless of the repercussion to their unwitting customers (whom they do not seem to regard).

From your comment Jim, I would say I need to be aware that they are liers and scummers that if I choose to do business with them I need to verify and reverify every single thing they say to me and know that if by margin of error I MISS anything it will hit me back.

Informed Decision???????

So then, the salesperson gave you a price for the as-is car as "x".  You asked that person if it was over "market value" and they eventually said it was not.  At that point, YOU decided to trust that answer, quite obviously because YOU did not know the real answer!  In other words, YOU didn't do YOUR homework so that YOU would be a smart consumer and know for-a-fact if it was or was not above "market value".

If knowing whether or not their offer was above or below "market value" was YOUR responsibility.  YOU should have found that out BEFORE you went in so that you could decide, based on YOUR KNOWLEDGE, whether or not it was a good deal.

They, in all probability, lied to you.  However, you were not prepared to determine if it was a lie or not.  YOUR FAULT.
