For months we were bombarded with TV ads and count down clocks that TV would be going to digital. But if you already had cable ready TVs hooked up with coax cables then nothing needed to be done.  People who didn't could get a coupon for a converter box.  I happened to be all set, no boxes needed everything went off without a hitch.  Then at the end of February I get a letter from COMCAST stating that I will need to get digital cable boxes by 4/13 or risk losing stations 24-69 on the Extended Basic Cable I pay $68.48 per month for.  On 3/16 we pick up one digital cable box and three digital adapters, three items were FREE and the fourth is $1.99 per month.  We hook everything up and then have to call for activation which we do, as soon as COMCAST activated everything BAM I lose all HD channels.

We call COMCAST and are told we will need HD boxes.  The first box is $7 per month and each additional is $13.99 PER MONTH.  This will increase my monthly bill to $117.45.  When speaking to the rep from COMCAST we were told "we do not charge for the STATIONS, we charge for the EQUIPMENT".  REALLY??? Then why is it that I cannot get all the STATIONS I already have unless I rent your EQUIPMENT???  Of course I did not get a response except they would let me have one adapter FREE..big deal then my bill would be $110.45.  We were then told if we unplugged the equipment that we just installed, they would have to be reactivated if we then wanted to use them.  Although I didn't think of it at the time, that means that any time there is a power outage we will have to call COMCAST and wait until they reactivate. So the HD TVS I paid for are USELESS to me unless I pay COMCAST for the right to use them.

I DO RECEIVE HD CHANNELS

AUTHOR: Justmom2 - (Virgin Islands (US))

POSTED: Thursday, March 18, 2010

In response to the comment from the "employee" I ABSOLUTELY DO receive HD channels with only the coax connection on my HD TV.  I know because for instance if I input our local channel say channel 5 and I put in just number 5 it is the regular digital channel, however if I input channel 5.1 it is in HD, the same goes for many other channels.  And my point about channels 24-69 was NOT that I wouldn't receive them in HD but that I would lose them altogether if I DID NOT get the digital equipment from COMCAST. However with the "FREE"  digital equipment I will lose my HD capibility.  As an employee maybe you should know this since in talking to an actual COMCAST employee they agreed that I would LOSE the HD channels WITHOUT the required and very expensive HD equipment AFTER 4/13(FYI today is 3/18)  So maybe before you comment you should reread the complaint and actually know what you are talking about.   I stand by my original complaint.

HD Service

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 17, 2010

I was wondering how you were receiving HD service prior to picking up the additional equipment?  If I read your report correctly, you previously were using no equipment and had your TV connected directly to a port in the wall.  If this is the case, then you could not view the HD signal.  To receive and view an HD signal with Comcast, or any other provider, you would need the appropriate HD equipment.  You can also receive the HD signal over the air with an HD antenna.  Also, the channels you were concerned about losing, 24-69, are not HD channels.
