I have many degrees in both business and computing as well as more certification letters after my name than name, and the one thing I can tell you is:

1. People, honest working people don't give a monkey's bananas if you have post-nominal letters.
2. The majority of companies do not worry if you have post nominal letters and certification. I was at one point more certified than a person I worked alongside, but he had more experience in a certain area - this gave him the job not the qualifications, most of which can be bought with enough money and time.

Certification just means you can spend a lot of money on a piece of paper. Courses range from 50 to 3000 a day, and all you get are the bills. Certification would be great - if it could be industry standard, and the industry made certifications that actually guaranteed your level of competence. I remember my first CompTIA A+ it was a sham and no one cared that I had it, so long as I was competent and did the job I was asked.

Certification is more a way for those people with the money to make themselves look better than those without, or for simply making the companies that offer certification money.

Did you know that Israeli Military Industries have major bank software contracts? It means nothing - if the person and business has no complaints from customers then they are performing to their customers needs. If you want someone with certification, you are probably more knowledgeable about the problem than the person with the certification is.

If I could have saved myself the time, effort and cost of the certification I own (and of course, you must keep it updated, every year to remain certified for the majority of certificates), I would be a reasonably well off man.

Similarly, accusation of the owner being a drunk had no bearing on anything unless it has been to the customers disadvantage. Since no one has filed a report to such then I can only guess it has little impact. Many business owners are drug addicts, gamblers, liars and cheats, but they still make the big money.
