ConnectiCare is one of those companies we all got stuck with under ObamaCare - you know, where our premiums doubled or tripled, we lost our doctors because they don't participate, and suddenly with that hugely increased premium there's a $5,000 deductible you have to pay out of pocket before you actually receive anything from the insurance company.

For this reason from the time I signed up for ConnectiCare coverage, I never actually used it for anything - all I did was pay the huge bloated premium.  And pay, and pay, and pay.  Automatically, via credit card.

Then I was lucky enough that my employer (as the result of a union contract being signed) began providing health coverage.  So I contacted ConnectiCare to inform them that I was now under an employer's healthcare program, and that I needed to cancel my ConnectiCare policy.  This seemed to go through okay.

Then I tried to make my final payment to zero out my account, and for some reason, it wouldn't work.  I tried over and over again to sign on and access the payments page, but it wasn't possible.  At first I assumed the site was down and I waited a couple of days and tried again.  Then I tried calling technical support but the hold queue was so long I gave up.  Finally a few days later I finally succeeded in reaching a support representative.  Turns out because I canceled my account, they had locked me out of the system.  The rep explained to me that there was now no way to make a payment via credit card, either online or over the phone.  The only way was to mail a paper check.

And then almost immediately I received a threatening form letter in the mail stating that unless they had payment in full within ten days of the letter they would be referring my account for collections.

Keep in mind: I never made a claim.  I never paid late.  This company had no reason to treat me any differently than anyone else - this is simply how they treat their customers.

I am hoping my payment reaches them in time.  There is no way to pay them in person, over the phone, or online.  All that can be done is mailing a check and hoping the mail is on time.

And if this is how they treat someone whose only relationship with them was a continuous stream of payments - imagine how this people would treat you if you were actually sick or hurt.

RUN AWAY.  FAST.  Find a healthcare provider who at least pretends to care about their customer base.  Don't sign up with these jerks.
