*UPDATE EX-employee responds: re: fired for your truck being stolen
I was fired on 03/20/2008 for my truck being stolen. When I was fired Grant at CFI told me that I was being fired for violating company policy. When I apply for employment they say that my truck was stolen and I left the keys inside. The only key that was in the truck was the key to the brakes and they where hiden under the drive seat. Its not on my DAC report so how can they do that and what can I do about it. My life depends on my CDL I have lost almost everything because of that.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
re: fired for your truck being stolen
AUTHOR: Exconway - (U.S.A.)

although i do not agree with everything that conway truckload does, i have to call em as i see em. when you were hired you were SPECIFICALLY told that if your truck was stolen and you did not have your quadlock key (the key for the airbrakes) in your possession then you would be fired. is there something you did not understand about this? if they report that because you did not follow policy resulting in your truck being stolen they are not doing anything wrong. they told you up front you were REQUIRED to keep that key on your person when you were not in your truck. hiding the key under the seat is retarded. as i said, i do not agree with everything they do but you deserve this. they sell keychains in joplin and the key is barely bigger than the size of a quarter. i drove for them for years. kept my quadlock key on a keyring that i wore around my neck. never lost it or left it in my truck. if my truck would have been stolen because i had the key i did what i was required to do and thus am pretty certain they would not have fired me for it. the tractor and trailer alone is worth well over 100,000 dollars not to mention the load if you were under one. personally i think they should make you pay for whatever assets they lost. i cannot stress enough that you were TOTALLY at fault. they told you up front to keep the key on your person when out of the truck. you deserved to be fired and they SHOULD tell all people who call for a reference that because you didnt follow the policy one of their trucks were stolen. i hope you never drive a truck again. it could have been as terrorist who stole your truck. thank god it wasnt! its drivers like you who make things bad for the drivers who bring their "a" game to the table and pickup and deliver on time and accident free. although i do not work for them anymore if i went back to them my track record shows them that when they put me in a truck ill pickup and deliver on time and their truck will be well taken care of as long as its in my possession. but if i screwed up and make a bonehead mistake like you did they would fire me. and i would deserve it. its not their fault you didnt follow their policy.
