Small busy office, I'm the only admin staff, and I fell for the oldest scam in the book:  entity called us advising that our toner cartridges were going to go up significantly in price at the end of the year (call came in December) so we needed to order now to avoid the price hike.  It was peak busyness in our office and I'm the only person who orders supplies.

I authorized them to send me one toner cartridge, since we don't go through them very fast.  I thought the price seemed high - $469.00 plus $30.00 shipping and handling, but toner ink is expensive.  The leased machine we have is relatively new and I didn't realized that we were still eligible for free toner ink from them.  I submitted bill for first cartridge to bookkeeper and it got paid. Then I got a second phone call from same entity saying they were shipping us the balance of our order of 4 more cartridges before the price went up.  I thought that was odd and told them to only ship one, that we still hadn't opened the first toner cartridge. So I authorized the second one, too (yes, I screwed up). However, when I got the invoice today I decided to do a little research and found that the same cartridge is available online everywhere for $99.00.  Feeling sick, I contacted the leasing company for our copier and was advised that they supply us for free.

Contacted Corporate Warehouse Supply by phone after reading fine print on bottom of invoice that indicates return authorization is required.  I was pretty upset when I called and let the guy have it. Understandably, he reminded me that I had authorized the shipments and got defensive when I called his outfit a scam.  I'm waiting for the return authorization paperwork that he promised to fax to me by the end of the day, basically told me he didn't have to do this.  So yeah, this scam is still going on and they got me. Tell anyone who answers the phone not to give out make and model of any business equipment and if anyone calls offering to send you toner cartridges get number and call them back, don't place the order until you've had a chance to figure out a) if you even do business with these people, and b) if your lessor sends you the supplies.
