C.P.M's Professional Painting Crooks to all Canaan New Hampshire

I am writing as an ex employee, and as someone who is related to the owner.

I was working for myself for roughly 14 months, and one day in July when visiting one of my brothers, I was talking to the owner's (chris') wife on the phone. The subject of work came up, I was kind of looking for work, and they were in desperate need of help, so I said I would go BACk to work for them. Everything went well the FIRST week, and I worked 24 hours the first week because I started on a Wednesday. When Friday came along Chris gave me a check for ONLY $200.00 and said I would get the rest next friday with next week's pay. Next week came along, I gave him a FULL 40 hour week, and even worked over two hours at the Foley house at Dartmouth College where we were working to help him get the job done by his dead line. When Friday came along he gave me only $100.00 and said that he would make up the differance next week (again with the lines). So next week I worked only 40 hours because I would NOT work over time anymore untill I was paid in full. Next pay day come's along and he gives me ONLY a full 40 hour week, when he owed me over 80 hours already. He kept saying I would get it next week, and next week, and next week, but never seen it, he only paid me 40 hours, never paying me what I was owed. Then There was 3 weeks that I went with NO pay, but decided to stick it out, because he was my brother, (how stupid I was.)

After I was working for him doing college dorms, he took me off the college and had me go to a woman's house in Lebanon with a co-worker to remove wallpaper, wash the walls, paint the bathroom, and prepare the kitchen for painting. That woman would complain EVERY day because Chris was lying to her. She then asked me and my co-worker what he was paying us, and we both told her honestly what we were getting per an hour. She was then very mad, because he wasn't even paying out $28.00 an hour and was charging her $50.00 an hour PER A PERSON. She said that she was going to be asking for a new quote, and she fought with him for a week to go there and he never would. About 4 weeks later he sent me back there (at this time I was on a house in Plainfield, NH) and told me to lie to her and say I was doing my own thing that morning, because she called him complaining that no one was there when he promised her someone BY 8:00 am, and at this time it was past 10:00am. I got there told her what had happend, and how he wanted me to lie to her which I wouldn't, she let me paint ONLY the bathroom, and then said because how Chris has been doing thing's she wanted me to take everything, and fired his company that day.

On the Job in Plainfield, It was a HUGE house, and I was there alone for over 80% of the job which was a HUGE complaint with the home owners. Everytime the home owner would call Chris he would never answer. I was sent there a week and a half into the job to collect a half payment from the man, and he was upset. He said he would not give a check untill he was atleast half done. Chris then complained to me and the workers if he did not get a check then no one was getting paid. He could not pay anyone because back in May he had allegedly stole $8.000.00 from a woman who had passed away, and the FBI gave him one week to get $8,000.00 or go to prison, so he took it from everyone's pay check to pay HIS fine.

Finally The home owner did give a check for the half payment, ONLY because he did NOT want the workers going without a pay check that week. The house went from July until November when it should have took a crew of 4 maybe three weeks to do the whole thing. The home owner was not impressed on the lack of men on the job, and how long it was taking to do the job. After I was done working for C.P.M's Professional Painting I heard that he would not allow Chris to finish the job, because he wanted it done before Winter got here, and that did not happen. The man did call me asking if I would be interested in finishing the job, but I could not, because I did not have the crew, or the insurance, and I would not risk it.

I departed from the company November 2, 2007 and Chris hung my check up on the door at his office. The check was 5 hours less then what it was suppose to be for just that week, and he told me to go back next Friday and he would make it right, PLUS with what he owes me. I went back to his Office the following Friday, I got there at 4:05pm and Chris was not there, and neither was my check. I waited until after 5:00, and then I called Chris many times, and texted his phone, and he would not reply. I went home, and I e-mailed him asking for my check. At this point I was mad, and told him if he does not pay me I will bring him to the labor board, which I had to do. Because I tried collecting my pay that was owed to me, he called the cop's the very next day, and had me arrested for harrassment!

This is not just how he is with his family, he did this to many of the workers there. From July through November he had 13 people quit (not including me) from non-payment, or his constant lying. To this day I know of 3 other people he owes money to. He lies to his customers, tells them there will be a crew of 4, and sends ONLY one. Lies to his workers, promises them a pay, and yet pays his own bills before he pays his workers, and if you try to collect, he will call the cops on you! He does not like to honor his guarantees either, many places I went to this summer was touch up work, and had many of them tell me they had been fighting with him for months, and one for over a year to go there and honor his own contract.

I am writing to let the public know IF you are going to hire him, or work for him take MUCH caution. He will not pay you all the time, if you get any pay at all, and he will not honor his contracts. He was just fined from the State Of New Hampshire almost $50,000.00 for not being in compliance with the laws, and for his ways and his actions. So ask yourself, is that the kind of man you want to trust with your home?
