I bought the water softener back in 2009, I have had issues since the start where it was sending way to much salt through the system, there response was oh buy a reverse osmoses system, not acceptable, after a few years it started eating through my water pipes and destroyed my hot water tank by sending to much salt through

Now the device has a major problem with the motor where you have to tap it with a screw driver or hammer to get it going. The local dealer said that I have to pay to fix it and most likely it is seals which is pure BS

I sent in a complaint and they sent a response saying they told me labor was not included according to the warranty documents in the manual, first of which I was not provided, in their own manual it sates this

"Culligan Gold Series Automatic Water Conditioners
You have just purchased one of the finest water conditioners made. As an expression of our
confidence in Culligan International Company products, your water conditioner is warranted to
the original end-user, when installed in accordance with Culligan specifications, against defects in
material and workmanship from the date of original installation, as follows:
For a period of ONE YEAR The entire conditioner and Culligan Total Home Media
For a period of FIVE YEARS Soft-Minder® meter, or Aqua-Sensor® probe if so equipped.
For a period of TEN YEARS The AccuSoft® Plus circuit board, The control valve body,
excluding internal parts.
The salt storage container, brine valve and all its component parts
For the LIFETIME of the The Quadra-Hull conditioner tank
original consumer purchaser and the Cullex® resin
If a part described above is found defective within the specified period, you should notify your
independently operated Culligan dealer and arrange a time during normal business hours for the
dealer to inspect the water conditioner on your premises. Any part found defective within the terms of
this warranty will be repaired or replaced by the dealer. You pay only freight from our factory and
local dealer charges." nowhere does it state that labor is not included.

other brands provide a warranty and include free labor as long as the unit is under the warranty timeframe, some other manufactures will provide the replacement that the consumer can install without a labor charge

They will not come out and troubleshoot for free to even find out what the problem is.

Why can they not come out for free and trouble shoot the problem then tell me what the problem is, as for if it is a seal I will fix it myself but if it is in fact the motor then it should be fixed and they should let me be able to install it without a labor charge.

In almost every warranty out there when you pay this much money you would expect the warranty to cover labor or at least send the customer the failed part so they can install it for free, if it is not a warranty part I would be fine paying for parts and labor if I did not know how to install.

Why can culligan not troubleshoot and provide the part for free and allow me to replace it myself. This product cost over 3K and to have this many issues and to have to pay over 150 for them even to come out to look is a joke I could have bought other brands with the same warranty for way less money but I bought this due to the Brand and due to the claim that these were great products which currently they have been junk and a Ripoff so far, if culligan is willing to stand behind these products then it would not be a ripoff

I would like the have the parts sent to me and I will replace them instead and then I would not have to pay to fix a warranty item. I would like Culligan Executive customer care to contact me to resolve this not the local dealer as they are useless

You got scammed.

First of all, a water softener costs nowhere near $3k.  You can get pretty much the same system from an independent dealer for ~$800-1000.  If you are a DIY type, you can buy a professional-grade softener online for $450.  Those usually use a Fleck or Autotrol valve, which are reliable and cheap to service.  So you got ripped off to begin with.

Second, a water softener should never send salty water into the tap.  This means it's not programmed correctly (the final rinse step is too short) or something is broken.  You should call up a plumber who specializes in softeners and have him take a look (or you can read up on it yourself).  The problem is probably simple and relatively cheap to fix, but it sounds like your local Culligan franchise has no clue what they are doing.  This is fairly typical.

Warranties on softeners tend to be a gimmick.  Parts for a softener cost pennies.  Most of the expense is the labor to diagnose and replace the parts.  Of course, now that you bought a proprietary system, you are going to have to pay inflated prices for parts even if you do the work yourself.
