I'm a recent college graduate and I'm very disappointed about LaGuardia Community College. I can't stand people complaining about private schools, and not to complain about public schools like the City University of New York CUNY.

I can tell you Community Colleges are not worth the TIME. I'd prefer to spend more money, but graduate at a decent amount of time. I see so many people at LaGuardia Community College for more than SIX (6) years Or even More just to get a simple Associates degree in "liberal Arts" that's the type of degrees they offered the most, which is USELESS, a complete Joke.

That's completely ridiculous and you know why?, because all the bureucracy and state exams that they have, their "business" I heard of people repeating the same courses for more than three times; and they just keep making up more "exams" to keep failing students so that they have to repeat the subjects again and again until they can pass and then continue with more courses. They don't give reasons why you failed, they only tell you if you pass or fail. People learn from mistakes, right?

They don't have the decency of letting you know about your mistakes, so there's no way to know what was good and what wasn't on the exams.

Their Financial Aid is a circus, disorganized and slow.

A very painful experience for anyone considering this type of school. I just recommend you to go upstate for a SUNY school or just go to a private school.

Even better just relocate to another state, move to a better place. You'll see the difference.

La Guardia CC take this Sucker

AUTHOR: mad79 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 16, 2010

LaGuardia Community College, CUNY, is a scandal waiting to explode. You are invited to visit http://www.Laguardiacorruption.com to see the deleterious effect of administrative corruption on education and, in particular, how political cronyism, rampant grade inflation, fraudulent course material and fraudulent remedial exams have rendered the Mathematics and English Departments dysfunctional. With more than 120,000 visits to date, the website aims to inform all colleges, education associations, interested taxpayers, elected officials and news media in the New York City vicinity.

This college, in LI City, is the WORST educational institute I have ever gone to in my life. The ONLY reason it is still in business is because it feeds off of the immigrants who use financial aid and are going there for free.

Regardless of whether you're paying out of pocket, or receiving aid...GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE. They have messed up my transcripts SO many times and made ME go in for everything under the moon. Guess what? Their office hours are only 9-5 so you are screwed if you work.

Whoever said they try to flunk people to make money. GOD IT IS APPARENT. Luckily I haven't been a victim of that..but then again..after only one class there, I am POSITIVE I am transferring somewhere else.

I have been to SEVERAL colleges and have never been to one that was ran SO poorly. LaGuardia CC has a TERRIBLE system. I don't know ANYONE who has ANYTHING positive to say about it. It's really sad too because I was excited to start my classes there and get an education.

DO NOT GO THERE. I haven't had ONE prof. that spoke good english. Half the time I can't even clearly comprehend the language of the person who is supposed to be educating me. Forget going to admissions or any other office. That is HELL too.

MY SOLUTION= Save your money and go to ANY college but this. But be careful because many of the colleges in NYC are JUST like this one.

I personally would love to move to a better city.

Tony, or Carlos, or whatever name you're going by today ...

Do you realize that when you write a complaint and then post your own rebuttals to said complaint, it shows up as an "update" attached to your REAL name?

Trying to gain sympathy from yourself is rather silly, don't you think?

And let me in on a little secret ... college is NOT only about taking classes in your "major." Every legitimate college out there will require a broad spectrum of courses - this is called providing a well-rounded education. It sounds like perhaps college is simply not the right place for you. If you want to study one, and only one, subject, perhaps you should look into a technical school where you can get a "degree" in only a few months.

LaGuardia Sucks

I know because I was there too. They're different from all the other schools because they don't help students, never guide them properly, never give any reasons about the students mistakes so that they can learn from them.
Their "counselors" don't know and don't have a clue of what they do.

Counselors suggest students to take classes that they're not suppose to take. Even though they do it "Money"; classes like arts, music, afroamerican history, latin, and all that type of worthless subjects, that are not even related to the students majors.

An in addition to that you have all that type of high school kids; a complete joke. This is suppose to be a College not a kindergarden. They're lousy, rude, nasty, obnoxious and pathetic.

How is this a rip off?

From what you describe, this school is no different than any other school. Keeping in mind that you CHOSE to enroll in this school after researching it and determining it to be the best school for you, I find it odd that you are pointing out your dissatisfaction with things that should have been apparent during your initial assessment.

Additionally, for you to advise people to go to any "private school" or any "SUNY school" instead of this institution indicates that you are willing to jump the gun again, enrolling in a school simply based on its "label," doing little or no research beforehand.

It is time for you to take some responsibility for yourself and your choices, and not blame an institution for your own personal mishaps.
