Company offers plans to build a ultralight airplane.
I ordered the plans in January 2002 by postal money order. My money order was cashed in February of 2002. This is the last of May and I have not received any plans of yet.
I have e-mailed the company on four different occasions asking why the delay with no response.
The last e-mail I informed them if I didn't receive my plans or my money back by May 25 that I would send this information to the rip-off site. Still no response.Wendell

Why are you writing about VDO Specialtes? there business has nothing to do with you or you ripping off customers of money for what possibly are fake plans?
Then you call them names?, you really look bad yourself..
I don't know what to think about all this lawsuit drama other than I have
enough drama in my life already. I had no trouble getting my plans from
Affordaplane after sending my money, but they never responded to a few
simple questions about the fabric technique after the sale, so I didn't
start building. Then I came accross this group and was informed it was a
scam, which made sense to me.
Let's face it, where there is smoke, there is fire. I have no respect for a
businessman who has to hide behind his lawyers to keep conducting business.
I don't know if the Affordaplane is a scam or not, if it really could fly or
not... and at this point, I don't care. Ragwing and several other
*respected and established* companies have similar designs to the
Affordaplane that have been around MUCH longer. These companies can, and
will offer builder support, instead of leaving you high and dry like this
one. Oh, and the cease and desist letters to the members of the group is a
real nice touch too. Can you see Vans or some company like that suing
members of a builders group because they are talking about their plane???!!
It's ridiculous, and childish. As for me, I deleted the Affordaplane plans
off my hard drive long ago and have moved on. I suggest others do the same!

Great Plane

The AffordaPlane seemed like a good idea to me. The man on the phone said that construction was so easy that, and I quote "a reasonably smart dog could build and fly it".
Now, I'm a parapalegic, injured in an industrial plush toy stuffing accident whan I was 27 years old. I am not blind, but have difficulty seeing the number "17" and the word "fabric softener" for some reason. Based on that disability, I was given a state grant for a seeing eye dog. He is a wonderful, ompassionate and, I think, a smart dog. His name is Persnickety, or "Mr. P"
I ordered the plans.
All went well. I downloaded, and backed up my plans (as the aforementioned gentleman should have done, idiot) and showed them to Mr. P.
He seemed happy.
We set about to build the plane. Mr. P would fetch the glue, masking tape and other essential materials. I would assemble the plane with my teeth. In about three days of sleepless work, the plane was done.
I should tell you that I have never flown an airplane. I have never flown IN an airplane. Mr. P, though seemed right at home in the cockpit. In fact, i soon discovered that Mr. P wasn't, when a litter of puppies appeared in the cockpit, with "Mrs. P" nursing them. Perhaps another vision problem, I thought. Either way, I took this as a "sign" to proceed.
I started the engine, and pointed to the stick. Mr.P loves sticks and caught on to the basic idea of piloting an aircraft, quickly. With a good tailwind, I set the plane to taxi down our street, Mr. P at the controls, me rolling as fast as I could along side. Suddendly, Mrs. P grabbed that stick and tugged with all her might. The plane lurched skyward, just clearing the power lines at the end of the block.
That was about an hour ago. She's still circling the block, and I'm trying to find the AfordaPlane website to see if they have any landing instructions. I found this site on a Google search. I am open to suggetions, but I have to say that the plane has performed as advertised. Thanks you, AfordaPlane.

You know why people complained about my business, is that my customers were not happy at one time, when I use to act so arrogant as Afford plane is now. And thought that the customer owes me and not the other way around.
My past customers posted how I acted at that time. And you know what? It was true!
Now I treat my customers with extreme respect and I do anything for them, so I know I get Great Testimonials, what you read is from the past.
So this should be a lesson to you Affodaplane! you RIPPED ME OFF, and now I'm un happy, and as you can see so are many others..
And what is happening to you, is the same thing that happened to me 3 years ago.
Quit ripping people off!, other wise they post the truth about you, you keep trying to make like it's a conspiracy against you, but you are so into yourself you cannot even clean up your act and give me my passwords to what I paid for, did you ever think of doing that?? Then I would stop complaining.

Also, conducting yourself in such a way to say What they (Parks and Walkers) are too "stupid" to understand shows your lack of professionalism. It is easy to see that you REALLY wanted to come off as a Business man, but still was unable to rise above simple-minded insults.
I don't know HOW honest the first claim was, but I do know how ridiculous the attacks that followed were. A real business would react in such a way that would look something like this:

Anyone that is reading this please remember that mike walker and david Parks signed onto PUBLIC lists, and told a fake story, with the intent ONLY to defraud Affordaplane. What they dont realize, (too stupid to realize) is that many people love the affordaplane, and they gave all the info necessary for people to mess with them in a public forum such as this. Parks even posted his cancelled check with his home address and wifes name on it. What he failed to mention is that Affordaplane gave him a refund through Paypal, when his threats to the company became severe enough to contact the police in his area. Affordaplane told their side of the story on that same list they were banned from, and affordaplane would NEVER post replies to these people on a site such as this one. Thats what they want in the first place.
Affordaplane has always been honest and up front with their customers, but walker and parks dont realize that when they attempted to slander and defame the company, on a list related to the airplane, they made a lot of people mad.
Whats more, when you fight dirty like they have, you need to have clean hands. Mike Walker has a MILE LONG list of fraud and libel, EXACTLY like he is doing to affordaplane now. Go look it up on Yahoo or Google. Type in Mike Walker VDO Specialties, or look his name up on here.
No, this is an attempt to harm a company who didnt want to be threatened anymore, and have its employees cussed at and threatened. Nobody deserves to be treated like this. Look at Walkers record, and its plain for all to see what is happening. Affordaplane has been in business a long time, with many satisfied customers, and if you do your research, you will see that these two people, Mike Walker and David Parks, are only out to get some kind of revenge, for their pathetic attempts to boost their egos. Look at VDO specialties, and the ripoff reports about them, and the pages on the internet from their OWN PARTNERS showing how mike ripped them off, and infringed on copyrights.
With that kind of history behind him, and with EIGHTY EIGHT complaints against him with the BBB, its easy to see what is going on here.
Affordaplane doesnt have time to waste posting replies on here, so Mike from Chippewa WI, and David Parks from Doddridge AR are making up the replies.
Mike, you should THINK before you post your info to a public list, when its so easy for affordaplane to tell the truth, and back it up with emails you sent them, to that same list. You dont even know who you are talking to on here. You made five enemies right off the bat when you threatened certain list members with banning their host, and having them shut down, just for saying hey thats not right what you wrote. Shame on you.
Based on Mike Walkers record with VDO Specialties, and all the people who you have ripped off and slandered, who are we to believe? Not you, thats for certain. And stop pretending to be a girl called melissa, its embarrasing.

From now on I've made an oath that before I purchase ANYTHING irregardless of how small or large the investment is that I'm going to check the company on the ripoff report and see what is listed. I also tell everyone I know when there is a DEFINITE scam going around.
If there is only one complaint I may look passed it, but when the company is disrespectful, dishonest, and repeatedly and unnecesarily harsh I see sure tale signs of a scam.
This IMO is DEFINITELY a scam and one I will stay far away from. To have someone, a businessman no less parade as an irate consumer (Richard) and post twice using different cities but the same state is just too many follies to consider them as a place to get plans for an airplane.
I just think that the best way for a succesful business to continue is to be a GOOD CUSTOMER FRIENDLY business!!!

These guys are jealous of Affordaplane, and the great job Mr. Edwards has done with his airplane. David Parks lives in Doddridge Arkansas and tried to EXTORT plans from affordaplane, then got his site removed due to slander and defamation. He tried to act like he was a victim on different lists and got banned. Mike Walker has a MILE LONG ripoffreport on here, go look it up.
"d**k" is from South Florida with a beat up weedhopper in his yard, never even SEEN an affordaplane, and his 'friends' at the airfields say he is a mean, nasty old man with a bad temper. Never has flown ONCE that anyone knows of, but claims to know everything about everyone. He's a sick sick puppy. WE can post his address on here and phone number if he keeps it up.

How can he be on disability from the govt and SSI for a bad back when he clearly in the pictures is panning for gold, etc? How can he have 'over 20,000' parts? You can see from the site that he even got his HOUSE donated from people. What a mooch. He is SO jealous of Affordaplane it borders on stalking. But the great part was seeing him get his butt ripped by the groups and then banned when he couldnt back up his ridiculous statements.
Jimi says he has done 'high altitude recon' for the govt. Sure he has, if you count wacking off on top of a corn silo while watching his mom get dressed through the window.
He says he is good friends with Tony Spiezo, but we called him and he is APPALLED at what jimi is doing. Jimis favorite thing is to cry to the lists, and say oh poor me Im a poor broke back man with a family who needs AIRPPLANE parts donated to help me get by. Then he screws his friends out of things and goes prospecting hoping to get rich. He never pays anyone back.
Jimi is in bed with Ted Fonteleiu of Sirius Aviation, whos "world headquarters' is a garage attached to his house, and he doesnt even HAVE AN OCCUPATIONAL LICENSE for what he is doing there. He is also in trouble with a LOT of people for ripping them off, just like Jimi does.
They are pathetic, and it was great watching them get bashed on the very lists they tried to slander Affordaplane at. They havent been able to stop affordaplane for four years now, and never will. If they got off their OWN ASSES and did something other than LIE about someone who is so much better a man than they are, they might have had a chance. But they never will, they would rather get hand outs. They are LOSERS, and deep down they all know it.
But the tides have turned on them now, and there are THOUSANDS of people who LOVE the affordaplane, and they will rip these FOUR people a new one when they spout their crap next time, you watch and see.

My husband bought the afford plane plans; I'm so happy I ran into this on internet! I could almost praise God!
These people are very rude, we ordered our plans and waited, and waited and waited, my husband felt for sure he was ripped off.
They never responded, emailed the plans no one emailed back. We tried to call them, but they listed no phone number whatsoever. We researched a little further and found out that the web site was not even registered in Dave Edwards's name. We emailed about that, no response.
After finally threatening them, about calling the police, they came back and gave some excuse about his wife being in the hospital.
We never did get the plans, and feel this was retaliatory on their part and sounds consistent with what I have read on the internet.
Yes some might have gotten their plans, but I fear not in a timely manner, and those that complain after waiting for weeks will never get them as pay back for complaining.
Buyer beware, also we have never found any plane to actually be flying, lots of builders but no one actually flying this plane. MAKE SURE before you spend any money to talk to someone who is actually flying!!!! Because there are none!! As of this date with actual concrete proof.
I still believe it's possibly a scam. Better not to buy, for the same money to build a afford plane you can buy a used Ultralite; you might safer than with an unproven design.

These guys are a typical bunch of jerks, who if most build the airplane will end up killing themselves. I've been around this for 39 yrs and seen most all.
The problem is the internet. In years past, a "newby" would get involved with a local group of builders, and they could guide "him" to the proper way to build an aircraft. Now someone like Edwards, comes out with a half assed design, which is unproven, and a bunch jump on it, get on a group, and all feed on each others stupidity. This is born out by the reaction to my post on doing the W&B properly. All they want to do is defend totally stupid was to attempt to do it.
Anyway, most won't finish the airplane, and we are not population challenged.
Do not belive any positive response here, it's Affordaplane trying to save there a*s, they must be losing business. That's what you get for treating people badly

I received my plans from Affordaplane nearly 2 years ago and in a timely fashion.
The company stands behind what they sell and when I did have a problem they took care of it.
Since at a cost of $ 25 Canadian back then I did not expect much, but let me tell you for the money I spent it was well WORTH IT.
The company has updated the plans since then and I have had no trouble accessing them from their website.
Perhaps, Wendell, if you were not so confrontational and a little less rude you more than likely would have been taken well care of by them.

No one has it in for Affordaplane, that's nonsense, Affordaplane cannot admit they screwed up, they would rather retaliate against customers that complained, a common mistake of most newer Internet Vendor's, they thing they can get away with it, by getting rid of the customer, and they think that for $25, the customer is not going to go after them. So they get rid of the customer by not answering the customer's emails, and or Snail Mail, notice Affordaplane DOES NOT HAVE A PHONE NUMBER, and only list a PO Box.
Tell Tale signs of a Possible Scam.
The answer above is Affordaplane trying to act like a customer that is satisfied.
However upon close examination, notice that this "So called Customer" answered right after the other gentleman posted.
This just shows that it is Affordaplane trying to save its behind.
No new person to the Rip Off report is notified of a rebuttal, only the original author of the complaint and Affordaplane are notified.
So right there proves it's another trick of Affordaplane screwing with consumer's do yourself a favor and do not buy the plans, so far I have only seen 2 pictures of anything flying anyway, and no other pictures of it flying. People are building these planes, and I believe they really do not fly me.
But do not buy plans from people that do not send them, as in my case I never got my serial number till I threatened them to give my money back, of which they still have not.

HELP!
A couple of months ago I went to a website called
www.affordaplane.com.
I looked the site over and liked parts of the aircraft so I sent the owner Dave Edwards a personal check in the mail, a personal check for
$45.00 for printed plans.
Well 1 week went by and I shot him an email asking if he recieved my check his reply was not yet. I thought well cool no problem, that was
during the time the first hurricane hit Florida so I figured the mail was probably just real slow. Anyway to make along story short after
several emails to him he continually said he has not received my check. So I checked with my bank and they said it was cashed three
days after I sent it, by Dave Edwards. I got perturbed sent him a copy
of the cancelled check and he refused to send plans or the cash. I even told him to email me the eplans and I would call it even! Guess
what? NADA! Thats right nothing he even blocked my emails!
After I done all this I said hey someone out there has a set of eplans they wouldn't mind sending me. So if you have a set consider helping
me out PLEASE.
Let me add I have no hard feelings toward Mr. Edwards and he is probably a good man.

Thre have been many people reporting to me that they have been ripped off by Affordaplane, I'm actually surprised that I'm not the first person on teh Ripp Off report.
I orderd plans in 2003, I to had to threaten the people to deliver on the plans, it tooks months before I go them and my serial# I was rudley told a excuse his wife was in the hospital and I did not need teo serial number to build the plane.
Really?, I thought, hey but I paid for it, so I should get it, right, well get this..
Later about a year later, my laptop did a woopi! and it's Hard Drive died, with most of my filed passwords for things and also my plane plans, I emailed them, explained who I was, and guess what?, they told me this...
Dear Sir,
While we sympathize with your loss, our policy states on the download email that you have 24 hours to download and save the plans and passwords, and it is the responsibility of the customer to keep them in a safe place. Affordaplane Aircraft is under new management, and we are unable to make exceptions to this policy.
If you would like to order a set of E-Plans, you can order them from the web site, and we will get them right out to you. Thank you for your consideration.

You need to understand something, and I am going to explain it to you. I had every intention of sending you your passwords, and then you send that bullshit email trying to intimidate my secretary. I dont know why people like you do the things you do, threatening good people for no reason when they have bent over backwards to provide a good product, for a VERY small price. There was no reason in the world to send that kind of email to us, when most airplane companies dont even answer their emails. And thats a fact. We answer our mail just fine, always have, always will. Who cares how fast you answer your own email. You cannot bullshit me, I have a lot more experience with these things than you do. And I own a lot more companies than you do. But you want a pissing match, and we are not going to play this game with you.
No, you were trying to intimidate us, just like you did last time. And you were flat out wrong for that, when it was YOU, who lost your passwords, and were asking US for HELP. Not to mention every other one of our thousands of customers have done just fine with this policy. And they are ALL happy customers, who love this airplane with everything they have. And they will defend it too. So we know the score. Legally, we have done everything we said we would, our contract is fulfilled with you, and if you have any knowledge of the law at all, then you should know this. But again, you threaten us with no legal grounds to stand on. You have every right to tell your story, to anyone you want to, that you lost your passwords, sent us a threatening email telling us to hurry up, and we decided we dont want to play that way. When you have your hand out asking for help, from something you did yourself, you dont go threatening people that are the ones helping you. But the second you step over the line, and it slanders us, or libels us, or causes the company damages, I will have you in a court of law so fast your head will spin. And I will have your servers shut down with an immediate cease and desist order. And then sue you for libel and slander, including defamation. We've done it before, its like eating popcorn, and we know we will win. Absolutely win.
So before I waste any more time on this, you need to first apologize for trying to intimidate us, and we can go from there. Its awful d**n petty of you to say what you have over 25 bucks. You should know life is too short to major in minor things, like you have. Especially when you say you have bought materials for the plane, when you cant even supposedly print or view the plans. And then b***h about 25 measly bucks. That doesnt give ANY one the right to try and intimidate us, and we absolutely will do everything in our power to stop people like you from intimidating anyone doing business on the internet, or anywhere else. I myself have purchased both the mail order pland,and the downloadable e-plans and had no trouble at all with either transaction. Emails were promptly answered by Dave himself. Just my two cents.

Dear Sir,
Since this is the first time I have heard of this, I will find out where your 'supposed' ordered plans went to.
We have hundreds (probably thousands) of customers all over the world, and as far as I know, they are all satisfied. I doubt we would still be in business after almost four years, if we were a fraud.
Even so, we take great pride in trying to achieve 100% customer satisfaction. Its so easy to file fake reports on the net trying to do harm to companies, and I have found out most of these posts (there are only a handful) are from rival airplane company owners, who are jealous of our success, and our huge following. All you have to do if you doubt it is go look at the site, its all right there, all the builders, all the pictures are there.
The problem with sites like ripoffreport.com is that anyone can make false statements about anyone, without any proof, essentially taking pot shots at anyone they want to, with total impunity. If they had to show any proof about their claims, this site wouldnt exist, due to lack of content!
Besides, if people want to build an airplane, they can get started for an investment of under 20 bucks. How bout them apples.
