I have stayed at Days Inn on business trips for years and never had a complaint until now. I made reservations on line for a business trip. Today I found the project had been pushed back a week, so I called Days Inn to change my reservation date. No way! You prepaid for that date, so you lose your money! So much for customer service. So Days Inn gets a free $250.00 from my company, and loses me as a customer life. Do the math Days Inn, you get $250.00 you lose!

Yep I learned a vauable lesson, read the fine print and don't stay at cheap a*s motels. I'm not real sure about the "Internet Discount" part. I was just trying to same some time by using the internet. In any case, my opinion is that it was poor service to a long time customer. Not a big deal, they have their rules, and that's fine. I just choose to spend a bit more and stay at a better class of hotel now, and yes indeed I do read the fine print. Have a nice day. :)

Quoted from the Days Inn website for prepaid rates:
"REQUIRES PREPAYMENT OF ROOM AND TAX NO CANCELLATIONS OR CHANGES ALLOWED"
So in exchange for not being able to cancel or change you get a discounted rate. Is it that hard to understand?

It appears that Days Inn rules for booking on-line are the same as Orbitz and the like, you pre-pay and there are no changes.
Interestingly, after informing Days Inn they had lost me as a customer, I received a call from them, (The day before I left on this trip) and they said they had been mistaken, that it was up to the manager of the Days Inn, and they would be happy to change my reservations. A bit too little and too late. I booked at the Quality Inn in San Marcos Texas. I must say for a few dollars more per night, it is a far superior hotel, and they have no issues with unexpected changes

Online Reservations

Hi Dave -
I was actually on this site searching for reports on a different company when I ran across your report. I was just curious - you booked your reservation online? Did you by any chance book it on a travel discount website (Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity ...) or was it booked on the Day's Inn website? The reason I'm curious is because from working for a different hotel chain I can tell you for future reference, if you book on one of those discount travel sites you are actually purchasing the room from that particular website (which purchased the room from the hotel). When we had customers who booked their room that way to get a better rate, they would sometimes call us at the hotel to change dates. In cases such as those, the hotel actually usually can not make ANY changes 'to the reservations. Since those rooms were booked thru the travel discount website for a particular date any changes would have to go back to the source of booking. On the other hand, sometimes when someone books on the hotels actual website (in your case, Days Inn's website if that is where you booked) there are sometimes even non-refundable rooms offered for discount rates. However, if the room was non-refundable you would have been told that online. If any of these were the case I'm afraid you are most likely out of luck, however if you booked a regular room at the regular rate on the hotel's website I would call the hotel directly and speak to the manager or call the chains customer service line. Just some suggestions as to why this may have happened to you, however - I'm only familar with my particular chain that I worked for, not Days Inn. I assume the policies are similar anywhere you go though. Good luck!

Well good for you that you can afford a $300 a night Hotel, sadly I have to prepay for my trips and that's a might out of my range. Speaking of Hookers, I'll tell your wife when I see her on my next trip.

The Days Inn? You must be a real high rolling businessman.
I travel quite a bit myself. Thankfully, I don't have to stay at a Days Inn. I stay at Hilton for all of my travel, and book online. They have different rates. There is the "Net Direct" rate which is full payment in advance and it's non-cancellable. This is the lowest rate. Then there is "Best Available". This is a little more, but you can cancel within 24 hours. I always take this rate because my schedule always changes.
For example I just booked a room in NYC for $309/night + tax. The "Net Direct" rate was $278/night plus tax. As you can see, it's not really worth it. Most likely you booked some similar non-cancellable, non-refundable deal with Day's Inn.
Well, have fun at the Motel 6. Sure, you could stay someplace nicer, but then you wouldn't have money left over for the hooker
