Dean International had ANOTHER accident on July 20th, 2014 off of Elliot Key.... my condolences to the family of Ricardo Barboza whose crash in the cessna 172, N737TP was fatal.... This is not the first accident at this school. Be sure to research carefully the NTSB database for the other recorded accidents of this school. I would also recommend calling the FAA at FSDO#19 and ask about their violations for maintenance and instructing.... this will help you get a feel for this school before making your choice.

For anybody that has read this far, they should know the truth about Dean international. We (former Dean international instructors) have seen the truth of how Dean runs his business:
1. Dean hires undocumented flight instructors. We have the names of these instructors which date back several years and records of the checkrides they've signed off on. These undocumented, illegal instructors studied for their certified flight instructor licenses at Dean international on M1 student visas. Robert Dean incentivizes these instructors to teach by giving them free flight time. However, he never tells them about the legal problems they face if they get caught. First of all, this is illegal since Dean international didnt file for the optional practical training endorsement (Code of Federal Regulations Title 8 Sec. 214.2(m)). We've seen some of these instructors work several months logging hundreds of instructional hours. That is, the same students that we train to become flight instructors end up taking our jobs! These hours could've gone to legal flight instructors who would have gotten paid for them and recieved hours for our resumes. However, Robert Dean chooses to enrich himself instead and doesn't care about the people who work for him. This illegal activity represents a substaintial part of his business. Eventually the Department of Homeland Security, and possibly the IRS, will hunt him down. It is only a matter of time. Or possibly, a lawsuit from us, the flight instructors, will be filed against him for lost wages and career opportunities and damages.

3. The school is always getting in trouble with the FAA, shoddy maintenance.... Call the FAA about all of his write ups which is the South Florida FSDO #19 here is their telephone number (954) 641-6000.... Several students and instructors have received letters from the FAA do to Dean's poor maintenance record.... Don't get caught up in it.
Do your homework about this school and let the facts speak for themselves.....And again our regards to all of those who have received unethical treatment!

The pilot was a student pilot that was signed off to do a solo at the KTMB airport for an hour. He decided after one takeoff and landing to go to the Southeast to Elliot Island where there were over 250 boats hanging out. (He violated Dean policy)He then started doing all kinds of stunts with the aircraft while people watched.(He violated Dean policy and FAA regulations) He flew the aircraft over the 2.5 hours (He violated Dean policy) Eye witness reports from all local news stations have tape with people saying that he was performing kamikaze stunts. There was no sign of any maintenance issues or improper training. The FAA actually brings trainees to our location to teach on how things should be done the right way. The person writing bad comments is obviously envious and a coward because they put annonomous, the three smaller schools at KTMB figure that by doing this then they will get many of the students from Dean International inc. So please do your homework and check them out thoroughly and you will find how they tell you one price and by the time you are done it will be a lot more. Their maintenance is what the FAA keeps writing up and they are all about saving money. Dean is transparent and has trained over 7000 pilots around the world. We love what we do and sleep well at night knowing that we do not cut corners in maintenance and promote safety to all instructors and students. We will not solo anyone unless another instructor also checks the person out. Our instructors are taught no one flies solo unless you will put your mother in the aircraft with that student. Our condolences are with Ricardo's family and our prayers are for all concerned. May God be with him and his family.
