Fees and charges

AUTHOR: dep - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 13, 2011

In defense of the original poster, I too have been overcharged continaully for over 24 months. I had been a sprint customer since 1991, yes when the bag phones were still out. I was a staunch supporter of sprint to all whom advised me to leave. I guess you could say I was a die-hard fan of Sprint.

Once Sprint joind with Nextel, their customer service went down the drain, the coverage areas, decreased, (areasI was receiving coverage dissapeared), and thier billing practices began to prey on the unknowing. I have received charges for everything from 411 calls to internet usage, (this all happening while I had a very expensive - all in one complete coverage plan).

When I bought this plan I made it well known that I will NOT pay extra fees, extra charges, and will not put up with receiving fraudulent bills. Yes fraudulent, You see when a company knowingly bills your erroniuosly, (hoping you'll miss the "mistake"), and pay the bill, its is the epitemy of fraud. When you do "miss" an overcharge, or "wrong charge", it takes a manager, and then thier manager to get the charge reversed, if they are willing to do it at all.In the industry, they call this overbilling overages, and factor it into thier yearly proffit projections. WOW they BANK on getting paid for doing NOTHING !!

I have kept track of how many hours I spent on the phone with sprint in the past two years. I have spent an average of 3.7 hours per month on the phone with them, yes thats right, I have spent 88 hours & 43 mins. I have the sprint bills to prove it.

After my last overcharge, taken directly from my bank, I told them should it happen again I was dropping my service with them. I had NOT renewed my original agreement in over 4 years, and did not sign off on any auto renew plans either.

Well the very next month, they not only over charged me yet again, they withdrew from my account the equivilent of 3 monthly payments. An honest mistake I was told, but it took me 36 days to receive the refund. As soon as I received the refund I cancled my account sprint. Within 7 business days,I received a notice stating I had to pay an early termination fee.

Now lets put this into perspective. Over 24 months, I had been over charged and average of $33.77 per month. With some months being much higher. My bill was a $109.00 per month plan, with taxes and fees, ( a whole other discussion), it came to $127.16. Now add up all the overcharges, and that equals $810.48. That is 6.3 months of billing, taxes & fees I was charged, or approximately 25%. WOW 25% over charges, and 88.7 hours of phone time with them, how much is that worth...Hmm lets see. I make 75K a year. Break that down to about 36.05 an hour. Multiply that by 88.7 hours and we have an dditional $3,197.63 of time (Money), I spent on just getting the ORIGINAL services I agreed upon. Add them both up and WOW its a staggering $4008.11

When confronted with this information here is, and I quote, whatI was told by the sprint representative. "Pay the early termination fee or we will report you to the credit collections department, credit collections companiesand make your life a living hell.." Now I cant express to you how many LAWS this statement violates, or the fact that they conveyed a threat using an interstate wireline, now were talking Federal Crimes.

I explained to sprint thatI would love for them to report this to ANY credit agency or collections company and I would have them in court so fast for harassment, fraud, communicating a threat, communicating a threat using an interstate device, and multiple collections violations, that thier CEO's Head would spin.

I occasionaly get letters from sprint stating I still have an outstanding ballance, however that is as far as they have taken it thus far.

Companies can make a fair proffit offering a fair product without ripping people off.

NO company is perfect, and by all means NO company is ALL wrong. However, if your the customer dealing with these types of situations, know your rights, know the laws, consult with people who SPECIALIZE in these types of laws, and above all else TAKE ACTION.

I wish you (the original poster) the best in your pursuit of justice and what is wright.

Advice on how to avoid them coming after you again.

AUTHOR: Amanda - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Hello!  I am working on my credit report right now and I too have that same collection.  If you have proof of the amount paid in full forget the collection agency and Sprint.  Go straight to Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.  Write them a letter stating that you have paid this collection in full and explain that you went straight to the original creditor to pay this.  Tell them who the collection agency is and the original creditor is on your credit report.  Then ask them to delete this from your credit report as the account was paid in full.  The Credit Agencies will then go back to the collection agency and the original creditor (Sprint PCS) and fight your case with them.  In most cases the Credit Agencies always win if you have the proper back up stating your case.  Also let them know that you have now paid them twice due to the lack of effort on their part to make things right with you.  They can get in trouble for not only charging you twice but for the harrassment they have been doing to you.  Does this help?
