Purchased anew computer system with new Windows 7 operating system, on the day the availability was announced. I opted for a 3 year extended onsite warranty. System installed on 11/24/09.

In setting up the system, I found that several software features were not activated and not available. Tech support informed me that it was a software issue - they only handled hardware. Transferred to software support who claimed that any software issues were not covered by any warranty and any help woudl be chargeable. Customer Care supported this stance

Being unfamiliar with the new relaese of the operating system, further problems arose where I need help in understanding how to use certain features. Once again I was told the "How To Use" issues are also software issues and are dealt with only on a chargeable basis.

In each case described above Dell's online support, FAQ's, support forums, or any other support venue offered by Dell was absolutely useless. My only hope for help now is to call in a local support computer service agency.

true for other mfgrs software apps, not for the OS. Microsoft refers you to Dell for OS issues.

No computer company is going to provide free "how-to" help on software made by another company.  They were completely right.  You purchased the computer from Dell, and they warranty the parts only.

The terms and conditions for the extended hardware warranty spell out exactly what is covered and what is not.
