I purchased a puppy from Kathy a few months back. The puppy looked sickly and was raised in a puppy mill type environment. There were multiple litters all at once and dogs everywhere. There are rows of crates on both sides of the wall in a big room, which I felt was uncalled for. She is running a business and has one litter after another and multiple litters at the same time. The puppy I bought ended up having a loose knee (luxating patella) which I hope my puppy grows out of, though my vet said it is genetic. She does check for heart and eyes, but if you look at her website, you will find she does not evaluate for patellas. Really disappointed with this home based puppy breeding business and the volume of dogs she is producing. Please look around and do research before you buy.

This is a FALSE report!

AUTHOR: - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, October 09, 2015

Since this false accusation has been written about my breeding bussiness, I took the time to contact EACH and EVERY one of my puppy buyers from the last year! I keep in touch with 3/4 of my buyers by text, phone or email, so this left me with just a handful of buyers who I have lost contact with. I asked each buyer how thier puppy was doing and if they were happy. I was FLOODED with pictures, updates and positive comments!! Not ONE of my buyers even had ONE negative thing to say!

I know now, who this person who left this comment is. This is a local "breeder" in the area that I bought a dog from a few months back. She did not want me to come to her kennel so we met half way. I should have known better. The dog I bought from her was not at all the quality that I would breed in my program! She was treated repeatedly for worms, had a terrible dull dry hair coat, and was not properly socialized as a pup (she would urinate if we even tried to pet her!) I treated her worms, bathed away her fleas and we worked hard to socialize her. All this was done in QUARANTINE because I was worried my other dogs would get sick. I then took her to the vets office and had her cleared and in good health for her new home. I sold her on a pet basis only to a very nice lady.

The "breeder" who I bought this dog from was upset that I resold her dog. She believes that I am going around saying negative things about her. I am not catty and unprofessional to do so, even though it was a terrible experience. This is her way of getting back at me. My dogs do NOT have faulty patellas. They are not sickly, and my dog room is a small custom built addition on the back of my home with 8 crates, heating and AC and grantine countertops. It is a FAR cry from a puppy mill!

She used these buzzwords here of "puppy mill" to try and hurt my business. Buyers, please do your homework when buying a cavalier. Many breeders claim to have OFA's done on their dogs when they do NOT. They will claim alot of things, but see the paperwork first. That is why I display it prominately on my site. There should be no question as to the health of the pup you are buying. Ask to see everything.

As to this report, I have a 100% (yes thats right, 100%!) satisfaction rate with my customers, and many repeat buyers. My pups pass a vet check with a distinguished board certified veterinarian before they leave for their homes. They check hearts, eyes, teeth, patellas (yes patellas!), make sure there are no hernias, etc.

As for Patellas. I do not OFA for several reasons. These are not cut and dry like hearts and eyes. patellas are not simply genetic. Diet and excersize are huge factors. Once simple flex of a patella will not give you your answer. Please do your research. I have nothing to hide and no faulty patellas, but as a buyer you are not gaining anything by me OFA'ing the patellas.

I go above and beyond what even some of the "top show breeders" do for their dogs. I test for everything that I can. I am disappointed and sad to see the catty manner in which this 60+ year old woman chose to act by posting a false accusation. I feel that the truth will always prevail in the end.

I sincerely wish that whomever decided to file this complaint had taken a moment to call me first. I would have been happy to discuss any problems with them but this person never reached out to me. I do not run a puppy mill by any means. I have anywhere from 8-10 dogs at a time, which is a fairly low number considering I don’t breed on every heat cycle to give the females time to rest between litters. The "big room" is about 150 square feet and is kept extremely clean. I have oversized crates for each of my dogs and three large runs for the females to raise their puppies in. Yes, occasionally several of my dogs come into heat at the same time. I have no control over the timing of their heat cycles. There are many months when I have no puppies at all because of this as well. I take excellent care of my dogs, they have five acres to run around on daily and they are all very happy, as are my customers. All of my dogs are OFA health cleared and AKC registered and none of my puppies look "sickly". Each puppy is examined by a vet at my expense before going home and the vet does examine the patellas of every puppy. I work VERY hard to run a respectable breeding program and I encourage anyone considering purchasing a puppy to call me and speak with me personally, come visit at any time to see for themselves how we treat our beloved Cavaliers!
