DAL Digital Audio Labs produced an audio card called CardDeluxe. Even though the card was very expensive, costing hundreds of dollars, I was drawn to purchase the card, because it is a single channel full duplex computer audio card that fits into a PCI slot and has only one driver. The full duplex was a plus.

Installation is a breeze. You pop in the card, load the driver and set the card as your default audio device and you’re ready to go; we’re talking less than 5 minutes.

However, as with all things, the card that I purchased had an early failure, so I contacted DAL only to find out that they no longer support the CardDeluxe. This is an extremely short life-span for an alleged professional piece of gear.

So I contacted DAL and requested a schematic so that I can have an Engineer repair the card.

DAL refused.

Some radio stations employ equipment that is decades old, but every piece of electronic equipment used at a radio station has a schematic that is easily attainable so station engineers can easily make repairs… except for DAL.

DAL has essentially pulled the rug out from under my feet and anyone else gullible enough to purchase a CardDeluxe. I purchased several cards from DAL and now that investment is no longer supported.

If you want longevity and support, you won’t find it with DAL’s CardDeluxe just excuses.

Rebuttla to DAL

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, June 06, 2020

I was hired at KFNX in 2007. I originally purchased many cards in 2007/2008 and a few more in late 2008. Never a word from DAL that the cards would only be supported for 4 more years.

Please DAL... list the parts that are no longer available, because I believe you are lying.

What was the reason that we couldn't hace a copy of the schematic? If the card was no longer supported, what would be the problem?

Rebuttal to Digital Audio Labs

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, June 05, 2020

Unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately. This is one of the most used words when it comes to product reliability. I was the operations manager at KFNX radio and after a lot of research, I had the station purchase several CardDelux audio cards for clarity, full duplex and a single driver. Any station computer that had anything to do with audio had a CardDelux; our 4 channel archive computer had 4 cards installed. The investiment for the station cost thousands of dollars.

When one of the cards failed,, I contacted Digital Audio Labs and found to my dismay, that all of the cards that the station had purchased were no longer supported and DAL would not repair the card. When I asked for the schematic to the card DAL refused. There was no End Of Life warning from DAL. Even Windows gives an EOL warning when support for their software will end.

This is a clear indication of the arrogance and contempt DAL has for its customers. You just don't pull the rug out from under someone's feet and say "Too bad... so sad". It just isn't done. The words "Buyer Beware" originated from companies like this.

Remember this if you are considering a DAL purchase.

Why anyone would want to screw a commercial broadcast facility staffed with professional writers ready and willing to write an honest review at the behest of the owners, shows just how ignorant DAL owners are.

Card Deluxe discontinued in 2012

AUTHOR: Andy - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, June 05, 2020

The CardDeluxe was a fantastic sound card released in 1999. It was discontinued in 2012 after a 13 year run, which is quite unique in the sound card market. Regarding this report, as the product was discontinued in 2012, many of the parts required to repair are no longer available.

It is unfortunate that the product purchased did not function as expected, but it would seem it was purchased 7 years after it was discontinued and about 10 years after it was last made.
