I ordered DirectTV because I wanted to watch the NHL. I lived in Europe for 12 years so I was willing to pay to watch my favorite sport.

Well, I spent 75 bucks to have the dish installed and got Direct TV. Little did I know that when the hockey season ended, they wanted more money to watch the playoffs. So I paid it...then the semi-finals started, I couldn't watch them...the channels were blacked out, called these d-bags and they wanted MORE money. I paid it. Then the finals started...I couldn't watch a game I wanted to watch and they wanted even MORE money! I paid it.

When I went to watch a final game I could NOT watch it. When I called these people they said the service wasn't available in my area. Unf-ingbelievable.

So...They kept charging me extra to watch the playoffs and then they charged me for a service they could not provide. I went off on these people and explained to them that is called fraud! They didn't care, and I cancelled the service immediately.

So then I get a bill from these punks with a $400 extra charge that was not itemized...they just sent me this huge bill (which of course I would never pay) and I called them and they told me that my "contract" was for 2 years and I have to pay 400 bucks to terminate the "contract" I never signed.

I went off and told them I would see them in court and I would file a complaint in Charlottesville court for fraud, which I was 100% serious. They quit sending me hate mail because I guess they believed me when I told them I was going to file a complaint!

It is sad that we need a website like Ripoff Report but ALL of the cable and internet companies are ALL ripoffs!

Contract..

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2014

Unfortunatly you DID sign a contract or they could not have given you the equiptment. There would have been NO MOVEMENT by the workmen if you had not signed the contract. You can claim you did not sign a contract all you like, but there is a TRUTH here that you fail to acknowledge. These workers DO NOT GET PAID FOR THE JOB if they do not have the correct information on the contract. This MIGHT help you, remember when the workmen called the DirectV and you spoke with a representative?? Remember when she asked if you agreed to the terms of service? Right there, when you said yes, thats a contract signature. Then the workmen would have had you sign roughly 3-4 pieces of paper. One of those was a "mini" contract that states that by signing you agreed to DirectV T&C.

Ok the LAST game, the FINAL game NOT being shown in your area, even on cable is NOT their fault. It means that which ever arena that they were at did not sell enough tickets or there was a general broadcast blackout. These are ALL issues that are outside of THEIR control. I would think a refund would be in order not cancellation.

By cancelling, you are now held to the full T&C of that contract. I would send their equiptment back and pay the ETF because LEGALLY YOU BROKE THE CONTRACT not them. It WILL stay on your credit for awhile and since it is for a few hundred bucks you can bet that if you dont pay it they will just sell it to a collection agency and that couple of hundred will turn into a couple of thousand.

But HEY!! Its your life. You seem to feel its perfectly ok to break contracts, abuse call center employees, and refuse to pay what you owe by law. Who are we to tell you to change ANY of that behaviour. Inevitably one day it will come back on you and you can look back and see that it was ALL YOU.

Sounds like...

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

Sounds like you were A LA CARTE on the Hockey channels. I know they offer a sports package thats pretty reasonable for you sport fans. HOWEVER, you DID sign a contract. You may not remember when it happend so I will help jog your emory. When they came and installed the equiptment, you would have been asked to sign 3 pieces of paper. One was the contract the second was for permission to apply equiptment to your property, the third was a summation of all services recieved.

You cant get any help on the Hockey issue, and there is ZERO assistance on your ETF. You can dodge it all you like, but you did sign and agree to a 2 year contract so they WILL send you to collections. Now heres the part that REALLY sucks for you. If you do not pay them the ETF, they will then send it to collections. When the ORIGINAL debt is NOT collected from you, they will then SELL your debt and additional fees and fines will be tacked on. It would be in YOUR best interest to pay it as soon as possible. You dont have a legal leg to stand on, you DID sign a contract. SO go ahead and take then to court, the additional legal fees that you will have to pay will be FAR more then the paltry $400 they are asking from you for breaking the contract that you agreed to. You can CLAIM you didnt sign anything all you like, but they COULD NOT even attach a dish to your roof without a signature on the contract. I dont know if things are different where YOU have been spending the past few years, but HERE and NOW all companies that provide a service or product that requires a contract are ACTIVELY going after deadbeats who welsh on thier contract agreements.

So you made the choice to cancel your services. Now you have ANOTHER choice. Pay or Dont. IF you dont pay the amount will continue to grow to the point where it will DESTROY any credit you have, and destroy any financial dealings you may have in the future. I only tell you this as someone who had to go through a similar situation. I didnt pay on a Columbia House bill. They said they sent me my order yet I never recieved it. Due solely in part to a thieving mailperson. So I told them WHERE they could go and HOW to get there in the fastest way possible. Problem was, my little $25 dollar bill ended up costing me over a grand when I went to purchase property. I ended up having to pay it. was it "fair"? NO WAY IN HELL! I SHOULDNT have been held accountable for not recieving the books. But its BUSINESS. Its NOT about "fair" or "right". It is what it is. What I didnt know then that I know now is that I could have disputed this bill and asked for an investigation as my books were shipped through UPS and left in the mailroom of the complex I lived at during that time. Thereby allowing the thieving mailperson a chance to take the items.

My point is that despite what I thought, the law WAS NOT on my side. In this instance the law will not be on your side. Pay it and get them out of your life. And them sending you a bill on what you LEGALLY owe is NOT "hate Mail". YOU have acted in haste and NOW get to repent at your own leisure.

Watch out

You need to check your credit report because they may tag you with a collection in the future. If they do, be prepared to have a long battle with them; however, your credit report may still be tainted unless you could get the court to order them to do so (which I don't know if it is possible).
