We made a phone call to order dish network. We was told every thing is free! He took the credit card asap! and was told yes its free install and everything. It was like great! but the 49.99 was for the first month! ok thats fine and u get one month free and free install and the works. So we were like great.. so after he hurried up and took the credit card, he then gave u a no that u have to call to set up the install. So we did.

The guy on the phone ask my husband for (a) credit card so he gave him the same one that we did. Then told him no it has to be his .. so then he gave him the info he needed then ask for his ss no. told him to wait so my husband sat there and waited like 5 min. Then he came back on the phone told him it would be 149.99 for the install. my husband said what no its free. He then said no u dont qulify for the free service, but he said we was told that its free.... at this time I took the phone and ask why was we told it was free. He said they have to see who gets the free service or not. But the sales person on the other line said free, he said there was nothing he could do about it and if we wanted the disc we had to pay. At this time I was a little upset they took my money and then told me it was a fee to get the service in yet in still I was told no charge. So we called back waiting on line for over 30 min or more to be hung up on. I told the guy whats going on we were told that it was free, he sure played dumb... I said we just got a email saying the same thing where did the charge come from. He still played dumb so I asked to speak to someone in charge he put me on hold for 15 min then was hung up on.

So my husband called back to the install dept and ask again why is there a charge she told him well its all what your credit score was .. he was like wait wait no one told me that they was running a report. She said yes they have to... how can this company just run your credit report with out asking, take your money and then charge u more .. in matter of 5 min. They had charged my credit card and would not give me a refund. Told me I had to call in the morning to ask for one. What is going on here !!!!!

Here is a copy of the email dish sent to us with key word free all over ...

#3 Consumer Suggestion

You are dealing with VMC here.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2006

The number in the email you posted: 800 998-3474 goes to VMC. They talk like they are DISH, but they're not. Notice how the email doesn't actually say who it is from. Now DISH could stop this crookedness in a heartbeat if they wanted to, but they stay in bed with VMC because VMC is selling a lot of certificates. It's kind of an honor among thieves situation.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Cut out the middleman.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 02, 2006

You didn't call DISH directly, you called a third-party marketer. In this case it was the infamous VMC Satellite. Let me guess, you responded to spam email from one of their affiliates. All that VMC does is sell you a "certificate" for $49.95. After you subscribe, DISH pays VMC a commission as well. If you cancel prematurely, DISH will take their commission back, and additionally VMC will come after you for more money.

The second call you made was to DISH. Here you get the bad news that you don't meet credit requirements and thus have to pay more. VMC doesn't care because they already have your $49.95 at this point. It would have been much better to only call DISH directly in the first place. Cutting out the middleman, they can offer you the same or a better deal.
