Rented car for the weekend, returned the car on at 5pm August 6, 2012.  At the return inspection, no issues were identified with the car.  Days later, their loss and recovery department contacted me and started sending me letters asking for payment of having to replacement a windshield and loss of business.  They sent me the claim file including an "accident report" supposedly to be filed by the customer which I had never filled out.  Their employee fills out the report with my information, indicated on the diagram where the damage was.

It appears there was a crack on the driver side.  The attached photos indicated a rock chip and a crack but was on the passenger side.  As well there was another large rock chip on the what appears on the photo, the driver side.  I had never seen these damages before the photos and definitely have not incurred them.  These damages are very visible, it would have been impossible to miss at the return inspection.  The photos are also taken on August 7, 2012, I don't know what time.

I feel ripoff because I had not incurred such damages as described by them when I returned the car.  The next thing I know I have photos of some car with such extensive damages to the windshield.  The loss recovery agent told me to provide my dispute/rebuttal to their head-office.  I pointed the time lapse where I did not have the car in my possession therefore would not be aware of what had incurred during that time.  Also the "accident report" they filed indicating the location of the damage did not match the photos they sent me.  After putting forth my dispute, the loss recovery agent forwarded me her message and my disputes.

Her summary of my dispute simply said "it is quite standard -- she is responsible".  Should she have forwarded me her opinion along with my dispute.  It is clearly telling me irrelevant to what I have said or pointed out, just play along that head-office will review it but ultimately this is the decision?  What was the whole request for me to put for my dispute, just to satisfy their "standard procedure"?  Professional is lacking at this company plus their practice is very susceptible and shady.  I would not use them again nor the recently announced purchaser of dollartag/thrifty.  They will be the same shady group.

Same issue but some resolution

My receptionist received a call from Jennifer, would not leave a claim number. Jennifer was rude with the message regarding my boss stating He Knows what he did. I then spoke to my boss & being his asstistant he had asked me to handle it because they had not responded to him in 2 months. Here is what happened: My boss went to Toronto and rented a Volvo in May of 15, there was no damage to the car when left. when my boss returned it, the person did a walk around and stated all was fine.
My boss then recieved a letter regarding damage, he left them a voice mail at this number,Jennifir must not liked the fact that my boss was disputing it. Mind you he has been a Gold member for 30 years. I was asked to handle the claim by asking for forms and such, I called this number and pushed xt requested and she hung up on me. I am now unsettled with her behavior. I tried to call back and it went to voicemail. they will not call me back . I then called the customer service in Oklahoma & explained what happened. This woman Deandra was wonderful she gave me the information and number that I need to contact to help me dispute the charge. '

I would recommend that you call the same number as well on the website Hertz.com. I am sure they will help you as they did me.
