I have had nothing but issues with my vehicle since I purchased it fom Drive Time.  Said the engine was repalces and it appears that it was not now I am having issues with the engine.  I have been paying for alomost 2 years and the balance owed is still what I financed in the beginning.  This sounds a little crooked...how can I remedy this?

It is pretty easy to fix this:

1) Read your contract. You are looking for the terms (interest rate, amortization period and fees). Get a copy of the amortizaton schedule that you are on right now with Drive Time. If they won't give you one, use one of the many amortization schedules available online to print off a shedule based on contract terms.  Look to see if there is a pre-payment penalty in your contract. Probably not, but with a subprime type dealer you never know what terms will be in the contract unless you read it. Really you don't know with any dealer unless you read it.

2) Refinance your vehicle with a credit union.

3) If they won't refinance it find out why and fix whatever it is that is preventing a refinance. Sometimes it can't be fixed, because your vehicle is too old or has too many miles, but it is best to know so you can come up with the appropriate plan of action.

4) Take your vehicle to another independent good mechanic to fix. Not to Drive Time. Their mechanics aren't going to actually fix your vehicle - they are going to bandaid it together.

Note for you:  If you pay late, then there is not only a late fee but extra interest for every day you are late.

Be especially careful with Drive Time and other subprime type dealers - someone one may have put you in a lease rather than a purchase. Naturally with a lease you never ever own it.
