Driveway Concepts, Inc. came to our home to provide an estimate for driveway seal coating and a minor amount of concrete work to lower the edge of our driveway to street level. They first provided a verbal estimate of $125 for the seal coating alone, which was the same as other estimates we had received. They then provided a written estimate for the total of $160, which clearly included both the seal coating and the concrete work, which was written into the estimate. They even confirmed the estimate with my husband later that day.

On 5/25/10 DCI performed the seal coating, but not the concrete work promised. When my husband called DCI the following day to find out why the concrete work was not performed, DCI informed him that the concrete work was not included in the estimate of $160, even though it was clearly written in the estimate! We would never have agreed to pay $160 for the seal coating alone when the rest of the contractors all quoted $125 for the same thing.

I then called the salesman, Bill Roberts, and spoke with both him and the owner (who refused to give me his name). Both were extremely belligerent and unprofessional, accusing me of trying to get something for nothing, and rudely hung up on me mid-conversation rather than even asking to see a copy of the disputed estimate! Nice customer service!

At the very best, Bill Roberts had made a mistake on the estimate, and any reputable business would have dealt with the issue professionally rather than throwing accusations at the customer; at worst, DCI is simply committing fraud by overcharging for work performed, promising in writing to perform certain work, and then refusing to honor a written contract. We are very sorry that we trusted DCI and would advise anyone considering using them to go with another contractor, who will likely charge you less anyway.

As a individual who works in the office for DCI, I remember this particular customer. She informed us that she had received estimates from other companys for $125. We came out to give a written estimate and based upon her driveway's size and condition it warranted a higher price. The customer also asked for some concrete work, which was noted in a notes section so our estimators were aware that our concrete divison would have to come out to give her a separate estimate. The estimate she received for $160 clearly states Sealcoat and includes our "10 point" sealcoat procedure. No where does that estimate imply it is for concrete. Our concrete estimator came out to give her an estimate for the concrete work she wanted completed, a process which clearly involves a highly detailed contract for that level of work. Her estimate was for $2,950.00 -which is significantly higher than the $35 that she claims should have been the price. It would cost more than $35 just in gasoline to drive one of our triaxle trucks to her home. DCI has been servicing customers in the tri-county region for over 15 years. We have completed work for almost 3000 customers in 2009 alone. DCI has several sealcoat crews as well as separate paving, patch work and concrete divisons. We are fully registered, insured and bonded company.  DCI has been built upon a foundation of satisfied customers who return year after year for the quality workmanship and materials we use. While we stirve to keep all of our customers satisfied, with the quantity of customers we service, it is impossible to keep everyone happy. Occasionally a customer does come along where they just do not "get it". To not realize that there is a major difference between $35 and $2950 and to think that in any way, shape or form that concrete could be poured for that price is ludicrous and there is not much that can be done. The customer was given a top quality sealcoat on her driveway by our experienced sealcoat crew using commercial grade coal tar emulsion. The customer was given a separate estimate for the concrete work and we would be more than happy to have our concrete crew complete the job for the amount listed on her concrete estimate.
