The information provided in this report below is based on comments made by Craig McKinney during an onsite inspection held by a third party verification company with no biases towards East Coast Wholesales.

East Coast Wholesale operates as a direct importer across the United States in scooters, generators, golf carts, and other specialty items. As a company they are striving to keep growing by adding new dealers to their distribution family. Owner, Craig McKinney, stated the following about his vision for distribution, "we started with a handful [of dealers] now we are up to 41. My vision is to get more dealers and distribute more product." Leads for East Coast Wholesale are generated through several different avenues including dealers, their personal website, and advertising on EBay as well as Amazon. The sales process is, "very simple." Consumers can access all the products they offer online, and have access to 24 hour customer service support. Their straightforward website offers an excellent understanding of East Coast Wholesale's products as well as shipping procedures.

CUSTOMER CARE & COMPLAINT RESOLUTION – EAST COAST WHOLESALES

During the onsite interview Mr. McKinney was asked to describe a situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service they received. Mr. McKinney expressed that their most common complaint arises when there is shipping damage to a product, " unfortunately UPS is not always careful with packages." In order to combat this East Coast Wholesale performs a thorough inspection of their product before it is shipped to the customer, "we do a double inspection, because we try and make sure it's perfect before we ship it out."



When asked to comment on complaints posted on Ripoff Report's website Mr. McKinney stated that he believes some of them were placed by competitors, while the others from customers they attempted to help, but these customers still placed complaints. Mr. McKinney went on to describe the lengths that East Coast Wholesale will go through to ensure customers are happy with their services, "we do our best to get it [product] back or give some kind of compensation...our best response to that is just to get it back, replace it, or give them their money back. We basically just ask them what they want."

When asked what type of changes they have made to honor their commitment to make things right with the consumer per the request of Ripoff Report, Mr. McKinney stated, "I took over all emails through customer support. I'm the owner and I care about customer support...so I handle all complaints and all warranties...only I deal with customers." Craig McKinney At East Coast Wholesales Smoking generator offered no help, rude when asking for help, doesn't put out stated watts. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

I bought a GX3000 generator from East Coast Wholesales on Ebay. I received it in decent time and in decent shape. I opened the box, put oil in the generator, and attempted to start it.

Upon start up the generator completely filled my garage with white smoke. Thinking this may be just a first time start up thing, I tried the next day. Everytime I start it, it blows white smoke to a lesser or greater degree.

Reading the manual carefully, it states that for higher elevations, such as where I live it needs a leaner jet for the carburetor. I contacted Mr. McKinney at East Coast Wholesales. I was told that if I didn't have a part number, he would be unable to help me.
At this point, I left a neutral feedback on ebay for him. Later I received the first of many angry, hateful emails about how I was trying to ruin his company and tell lies.

I then hooked the generator to the two 750/1500 watt heaters I use in my camper. The generator would power both of them on the 750 watt settings (1500 total give or take.) If I switched one of the heaters to the 1500 watt setting, the overload light on the generator would come on. Let's do the math: 1500 watts and 750 watts are nowhere near the 2700-3000 watts this thing is supposed to be putting out.

I then got some numbers off the motor inside the generator housing. As near as I can figure by researching Chinese Engine manufacturing specifications on many different website, the engine in mine is 125cc not the 149cc claimed. Research showed that the 125cc motor is used in 2000 watt generators, not 3000 watts.
I have documentation from websites, etc. yet Mr. McKinney keeps calling me names and being very rude. I have dealt with him in a much more patient and professional manner.

Final word: Buyers be very careful buying from Mr. McKinney and/or East Coast Wholesales. If you are one of the percentage points of unsatisfied customers, it only gets worse.

Funny, for all his self aggrandizement, I'm unable to find Mr. McKinney or East Coast Wholesales anywhere on Ebay.  I wonder why that is?  Too bad I was one of the unfortunate victims of his hopeless lack of customer service skills.  Generator is  still working when I use it, although very hard to start, still blows white smoke, and still won't power anything over about 2500 watts.

First off, I live at 4800 feet of elevation, not the grossly exaggerated 8000 Mr. McKinney is implying.  Secondly I still have copies of all our e-mail correspondence, where he tells me he can't help me, since the manual didn't list a part number for the jet I needed.  He offered no help in helping me find the part, just told me I was basically out of luck.  When I expressed a desire to possibly return the unit, he responded with "I will not talk with you further, unless you drive here and talk to me face-to-face."  Then he would no longer respond to any e-mails.  Buyers beware.

This guy was a nightmare to deal with. We told him before he bought it that if you live above 5000 feet in elevation it will start to lower the output of ANY GENERATOR IN THE WORLD and at 8000 feet, which is the elevation of this customers location it would lower it alot more. He needed to buy the jet leaner for his carb to help the unit from not smoking as much and of course he did not want to pay for it and only decided to complain.

To bad these horrible rip off sites only document nightmare customers complaints which are bogus instead of keeping track of our 45,000 happy customers in the last 12 years in business. At least ebay has a wonderful fair feedback system where you can look us up on ebay and see our tens of thousands positive feedback. Our name on ebay is EASTCOAST_WHOLESALES_INC. See for your self how wonderful these generators are as we sell 2-3 a day on ebay and have thousands of great positive feedback on this great generator.

Too late to complain to Ebay.

I thought I had a few more days to file a complaint with ebay, which is why I finally started getting a bit more aggressive with Mr. McKinney. I was too late by a week to file with Ebay. I think he kept me strung along just so it would be too late, then offer no help. Anyone interested in seeing videos of this generator should go to youtube and search for east coast wholesales. In one of his emails, he says that I am just trying to make trouble... Well, here ya go, Craig. Apparently I am not the only victim of yours, as evidenced by other reports here. I wish I had read them before I ordered. I have copies of all email correspondence and pictures as well if anyone needs them.
