My son lost his key to his 2002 Ford Focus. We were told by a local locksmith that we would have to take it to Ford to have the key programmed. I called Elk River Ford for an estimate. They said about $125 and you need to have the car towed here.

We had the car towed there while my son waited. After 5 hours and a great sales pitch to have additional work done they hit him with a $257 bill. They said that because Ford has a flawed database they weren't able to get into the car without hiring a locksmith which cost him another $95.

We complained to the service manager who said there was nothing he could do. He recommended calling Ford's customer service department. I made the call and was told that the service manager would call back in four days with an answer. Six days passed so I called Ford customer service again. They looked up my issue and said Ford would not pay for their inability to open a car they built.

This ordeal cost our college attending son $400 total to get his car back on the road. Is this how this dealer and Ford expect to encourage consumers to want their products? I have owned Ford's for my whole life but this is the end of the line. I actually bought a truck from this dealer but that won't be happening again.
On the back of the invoice it reads,"We're ready and willing and more than able to meet all your service needs, come back to the experts". Experts in what?

I called to check the record

I like people saying only good things about my dealer.  They have helped me countless times and continue to be a leader in the community.  So I wanted to get to the truth.

Elk River Ford charged this customer $159.  This is a false report and should be removed.

Who Lost the Keys?

I am frustrated because every time I search for Elk River Ford, I see this... DANA's rip off report. Don't get me wrong ripoffreport.com is doing well for the community as a whole. But they let people say anything they want. Well its my turn.

YOUR SON LOST HIS KEYS. Its no different from losing his cell phone. Is it the Cell Phone Companys responsibility to provide him with a new one? I assure you they do not pay for replacement.

How much do you think anyone else would have charged you? Less than $400?

Please Dana Take this down. Elk River Ford is NOT ripping you off.

Its all true

Keys are expensive. Today, the keys have a microchip that tells the computer to start. The quick copy days are over. We try to work closely with our locksmiths to help customers get back to their day. This instance was wild. Losing all computer chip keys is uncommon. Once both keys are gone, you have to tow it. This is a standard security feature on all Fords. This prevents the hotwiring theft. In turn, this reduces your insurance costs. Fortunately, the computer processor ($900) didnt have to be replaced and we could create a new key; Loosing one key costs around a $100.

Keys and maintenance for $400 is a good deal. The 5 hour wait was long. We have loaners to ease the interruption to your day.

Fords Customer service department is one of the best kept secret. You can get a considerable amount taken off your bill. You can only get these once or twice, so wait to use it on the big ticket items.

We have many loyal customers. I would like to take this opportunity to ask Dana to at least visit us again to discuss this report.

We are rated #1 in Minnesota for sales and service. If you have any issues with your service visit, call the dealership and ask for Travis Mitchell. We operate our business Right, Honest and Clean.
