Formal complaint:

ETS testing services- no consideration for students, seeking advanced education.

The company is responsible for administering and charging a fee to take the graduate record exam, otherwise known as the GRE test. There are problems with the general test, the general test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills that have been developed over a long period of time and are not related to a specific field of study, ETS claims that the test closely aligns with the types of skills that are required for success in today’s demanding graduate and business school programs, however, the test is base’s and his preset to screen out ethnic minorities as example, there is an achievement gap that separates communities by race and income, of course, if you can’t pay for the test, you’ll never get to take it. You can’t go to a graduate school. The achievement gap between ethnic groups has widened, specifically, people of color.

There are documenting gaps and achievements among students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds. It also has to do with family income levels and other closely knit community situations, you can expect somebody from a poor background to know something or be familiar with the same type of information is a person from a more wealthier background, there are no oversights or regulations to see that minority students, or any other students take a test of any kind on affair and level playing field. For example, the graduate record exam is an aptitude test that is administered to holders of a bachelor’s degree, to help determine that they are capable for advancement to a Master’s degree. The test has no federal or state oversight based on my current information.

It is just a general test set up to suck money out of students that normally would not pass this type of test anyway, as the test is geared for a wealthy person from a highly educated background. This is not mean that minority students would fail in a graduate program, all it means is there being charged to take a test that 90% of the time they would not pass anyway because the test doesn’t take in the consideration the ethnic cultural backgrounds of where these minority students come from. Depending on the field of study. The test should be given in the person’s field of study. Example a nursing student should be taken at GRE that is directly tailored for nursing practices, a mechanical engineer should take a test that is tailored to mechanical engineering and etc. the general tests proves nothing.

It is just set up for some new political agenda to suck more money out of students and has no federal or state oversight to make sure these tests are being fairly administered, another example, and an ethnic minority took the test and received a low score. This was the general test. This test was taken in 2014, the same student was given a chance in a Master’s degree program, even though they did not have a 3.0 GPA average, because the student had become accustomed to and was trained at gathering and manipulating information in the technology based environment. This same student completed a graduate program earned a Master’s degree, and the GPA was 4.0. This being the case, this proves that the general test is nothing more than an established fad, to attract students or manipulate students into paying for a test that they may not really need

The same company was sued around 1995 for discrimination of an employee. The case was heard in United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit Court case number 96 –5067, and a decision was given November 14, 1996, in this case it was age discrimination, in other cases, it had been accusations of cheating, by test takers and ETS remove their test scores and destroyed the test book, booklets, the court found that ETS testing services had violated specific laws and utilized sneaky tactics to high critical information about testing scores. It is my opinion that the GRE general tests, was established, to cheat students out of money for a specified test that is really not necessary, since a lot of schools do not require a GRE test. The company is trying to make a mark or establish a common general item that people will get used to, or be programmed thinking that they have to take the GRE test which is not true. Is making it harder for students to apply to graduate schools, another example is if you don’t score a certain amount of points,

ETS won’t even send a test to the school. This is discriminatory since the school doesn’t really care what the grade point averages on the test, are they only need the tests for administrative purposes, and they use other methods to determine whether you will be accepted into your graduate program are not, ETS appears to have set up a moneymaking extraction system over the years to get money out of students. If you think about it, you don’t really need a GRE test score. If you apply to a school, no GRE test score and the school accepts you if you don’t maintain the grades, the school may dismiss you from the program anyway. Regardless, if you turned in a GRE test scores are not, depending on the school. Some will accept GPA of 2.0 other schools may be a little higher and want a GPA of 2.50 if we keep going on.

Other schools may require a GPA of 3.0 or a GPA of 3.5 depends on the school regardless of what you GPA was or the school you apply to if the school decides they want to take a chance on you and let you win. That’s when you have to prove yourself. Because if you don’t whether you submitted the GRE tests or not, the school can still remove you from the program, based on what I’ve seen the GRE test is a waste of time and a waste of students money into me students are being ripped off to take a test, that really proves nothing. The analytics are wrong and the person who designed the tests didn’t take into consideration of ethnic backgrounds of minority students,

Regardless of where they come from. Another example is a white male student took a test, and it was explained to me that the test involved African-American studies and Native American studies and other ethnic studies, when the test was over. The student said he did not pass, not this was unfair to this student because he was never exposed, to African, American, nor Native American culture in depth, however, he was an expert with mechanics, and he should have been given the test in his field of expertise, but yet after paying about over $100 to take the test, he lost $100. If we do this mathematically, and ETS testing services takes $100 from 1 million students every year. That’s $100 million per year that they have just ripped off from students, so my opinion is don’t waste your time taken the GRE test.

Dear jean,

i took the time to read your online letter. please dont make yourself look like a fool online, yes you are right about free study books and other tools at the local librarys, let me be specific about the GRE test itself. all students pursueing a masters Degree or higher will have to pay a Fee to sit and take GRE test itself. this is a proctored test. you have to pay for the proctor to administer the test, and you have to pay, ETS Testing services for the test Package that is sent to the proctor. if you where a graduate student and Earned at least a masters Degree, you should already know this.also plan on spending about $750 or moor, the Free Sh.' that you proclimed may be out dated when you take the test, you need the most up to date study materials, based on my search you will not allways get this at the local library, you forget about competion for study tools its better to purchase your own, as study and later for ref. my study pack, cost about $ 200, the proctor about $ 200 and the test pack about $ 225, do the math, over $500. the next time your write something, look for the facts 1st.

as example at one time in the united states people of color where not allowed to read or write, this is a writen fact.

hear is another fact, if you did your reaserch properly you would know that all graduate students have to pay some Fees, to take the GRE test, this test itself is not free, unless the student has a sponsor. ok thats it.

Respectfully yours

You are completely full of s***. The most recent set of GRE data (2013-2016) completely dispels all your claims about racial disparity. There are plenty of FREE test preparation books in the library so there is no cost to prepare for the exam (and I highly recommend it).  There is only a limited relatinship between GRE score and success in grad school, which is why not all grad schools require it. Those that do consider it as part of a "total snapshop" of the student's potential.

You sound like a case of really sour grapes.
