I was recruited to work "with" Excel members. They explained their "success" stories but never told me exactly what the company does. I'm still not aware, after a full "interview", of what the company does and how it makes its money, aside from the fact that, in order to start, they require a $299 deposit to start the business, which I am currently trying to get back.

Excel Telecommunications is BAD news-they aren't even a real company. They are a pyramid company working off of selling training materials. That is it.

Pyramid Scheme?

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 10, 2004

Pyramid scheme...hmmm....if you are not in a pyramid, more than likely you are out of work.
Work at a corporation....is there one person at the top making all the money? can you work real hard and pass them up? I don't think so.

Same with any job you can think of, there is a CEO at the top and they are getting all the money, how are they getting all the money? From all the people on the bottom level working their butts off. And what do these employees get for working their butts off? They get to make more money for their bosses and CEO, they get to have lack of job security, because they can always find someone to replace you.

Now with EXCEL you don't have a boss, you work for yourself, you make money for yourself, you help others make money for themselves. If you think that someone is on top of the pyramid, you can pass them up. So therefore it is not a pyramid, that is the beauty of EXCEL!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Excel is many things but not a Pyramid (((EDitor's Comment)))

AUTHOR: Ruth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 01, 2003

I am a former employee of Excel Communications. While this company is not perfect it is not a Pyramid. A Pyramid business is illegal because it requires signing up people to SELL to make ANY money. When you sign up with Excel you can make money buy selling services, even if you never sign up anyone to sign up to sell in your group.

Granted, it's very hard to make money if all you do is sell the services, but it is possible. And having worked in the call center myself, I will say it is unfortunate that some of the independent reps that sign people up give out false information (unintentionally or not) to further their business. I know this is not condoned by the Excel Home Office.
::::::::::::::::::
Your understanding of what constitutes a pyramid and your definition thereof is sadly lacking. Based on your premise that you must sign people up to sell something to be a pyramid, are you saying you do not do that? If not, how do you build your downline?

Not trained/pyramid scam vs. true network marketing (((EDitor's Warning)))

AUTHOR: Rob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 20, 2002

BEWARE: The following comments are made by an employee of this pyramid scam. NOTE: Network marketing is a euphemism for pyramid scams.
:::::::::::::::::::::
I am an Excel rep and will say that I have received outstanding support. From your report I gather that noone took the time to train you. This is very unfortunate. The person who signed you up should be constantly giving you information, and helping you every step of the way until you are a confident self sufficient sales person.

Here are some things that will help you become successful in your Excel business-

1)Go to the Excel corporate website (www.excel.com) and locate a trainer in your area.

2) Go to training as often as you can (it's free for you AND the trainers get paid)

3)Learn all about everything Excel has to offer and how it can help people, save people money, etc. Use your products if you can to help your knowledge (plus you get commissions on yourself). Knowledge really is POWER. Make sure you read EVERYTHING on that rep support web page. Knowing and using your business/products is very important.

4)DONT worry about recruiting people just get customers at first so you get your money back!(that is the source of your monthly commissions anyway)

5)READ! These books are extremely helpful!
-Guerilla Marketing Handbook (must have)
-Successful Network Marketing
-Network Marketing For Dummies

Pyramid scam "companies" don't actually sell anything. If you go to a pyramid scam website, it will tell you that you can make money but will not mention any product. Look at an Excel IR homesite and you will see that it is a telecommunications company. A good Network Marketing company will allow you to make money without recruiting anyone!

Last but not least, it is not easy. I never tell anyone I talk to that it is easy and neither should you. Network Marketing is something you have to work hard at. It is not for everyone and very few are successful. Please don't judge the company based on your experience. Excel is a very good company with very good products.

By the way, Excel Communications is a VERY real billion dollar company and growing and is a part of Vartec Telecom (one of the best long distance companies in the nation according to the Wall Street Journal).
