MY FATHER IS 80YS OLD AND HAS ALZHEIMER/DEMENTIA AND RECEIVED A CALL FROM A CAR SALESMAN, REESE DAILEY FROM MATHEWS FORD TO COME IN FOR "SOME GREAT DEALS". WHEN MY FATHER LEFT 2 HOURS LATER HE ENDED UP WITH A 2007 FORD FREESTYLE CAR, FOR $30,978.75 WITH 24000 MILES ON IT INCLUDING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!
AS SOON AS THE FAMILY FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PURCHASE WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTIFIED THEM OF MY DAD'S MEDICAL STATUS AN HOUR AFTER MY DAD SIGNED THE PAPERS. THEY DIDN'T CARE.
WE CALLED THE SALESMAN, MANAGER AND LEFT MESSAGES FOR THE OWNER, TIM MATHEWS AND NO CALLS WERE RETURNED. WE SHOWED UP AT THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD "NOTHING CAN BE DONE". MY FATHER ALSO SHOWED UP AT THE DEALERSHIP TO RETURN THE VEHICLE AND I DEMONSTRATED HIS CONFUSION TO THE MANAGER, DAN STEINHAUSER, BY ASKING MY DAD WHAT HE THOUGHT HE PAID FOR THE SUV AND IF HE KNEW HE BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MY FATHER WAS DUMB-FOUNDED. MR STEINHAUSER'S RESPONSE WAS "I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OF THAT" !
MY FATHER IS NOW STUCK WITH A VEHICLE HE WILL RARELY DRIVE FOR $413 A MONTH. MATHEWS FORD COMPASSION AND SYMPATHY WAS NOT TO BE FOUND AND NOW I KNOW WHY PEOPLE DON'T TRUST CAR DEALERS.

The Truth About This Report
AUTHOR: Management - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, February 02, 2009
Mr. F worked with a sales person at Mathews Ford for a period of 2 months before making a final decision on a vehicle. During that time Mr. F appeared to be in full command of his faculties. When we finally had the right vehicle for him, and he was ready to make the purchase, Mr. F came into the dealership and negotiated a deal. While he was in the finance office he was offered a mechanical repair agreement and decided that it would be a good idea for him as he was on a fixed income and didn't want to have to pay for costly repairs in the future. He knew all of the details to the transaction and at no time did he appear to be the least bit confused about anything.
As of the date of the transaction, no guardianship had been established and no other actions to limit Mr. F's ability to handle his own affairs were in place. Despite this fact, upon learning of Mr. F's condition, Mathews Ford allowed him to return the vehicle and cancel the contract with the bank. It should be noted that while members of his family were threatening Mathews Ford, and posting negative articles on the internet, Mr. F maintained that he wanted the car and did not want his family interfering.
Mathews Ford was subsequently contacted by Stick from The Rip-off Report and a full explanation was given as to how the transaction unfolded. After his interview Stick concluded that Mathews Ford did absolutely nothing wrong and, in fact, went above and beyond the call of duty by allowing Mr. F to return his car. The characterization of Mathews Ford with regard to this matter was both inaccurate and misleading. Stick, from The Rip-off Report invited concerned parties to contact him for details of his investigation in this matter.
Mathews Ford does not discriminate against the elderly by assuming that anyone over a certain age does not possess the capacity to buy a car. I would think it an egregious mistake to assume that someone is not in control of their faculties simply because they appear old. In addition, Mathews Ford does not take advantage of seniors by putting them in cars with payments they cannot afford or terms that they do not understand.
Please contact Stick at The Rip-off Report for details and the outcome of his investigation of Mathews Ford.
