Family Credit Counseling Corperation Ripoff! This company first of all has two different enities, one enity that takes your aplication and leads you to believe that they can reduce your month bills by applying with them and give you false infromation to where your first payment goes.

I contacted this company by way of Internet, and after contacting them, I was so excited by what they said they could do for our situation.

It was said that my original payments would be somewhere in the 800's, and after it was all said and done, my payments were over 1000.

I was not behind on any bills, until I paid them my money and was told that this money went to their company lawyer. This of course put me behind on my payments.

My wife was then told on another occassion that payment would lower after three consecutive payments, that didn't happen, nor did the late charges become current like they said.

When I went to cancel my arragments with the company, they told me that it was to late to stop my payment to them, because I hadn't given them a three day notice.

I did what I had to do to stop the payment, from here on out, I will handle my own bills.

I had a different experience

AUTHOR: Rick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 30, 2005

I had quite a different experience with this company. First, you mentioned something very important that you dealt with 2 different ENTITIES. I did not join or enroll through Family Credit, I was sent to them from a completely different company.

Every time I supplied money to Family Credit it went to my creditors and this included my first payment. It sounds like you are talking about the refundable initial payment you made to a completely different company. I fail to see how Family Credit lied about a payment you made to another company.

The enrollment company that I used sent me a contract to sign and fax to them and this told me about the first payment. I still have all my paperwork as I tend to be somewhat organized. One of the first things it mentions is that first payment. Further down it mentions that the amounts I need to pay to get the reduced interest etc. are determined by my creditors. It told me that I would not get any perks if I did not pay the creditors what they wanted. When your payment amount went up it is because your creditors requested it. I had to do a few increases in the beginning and I questioned it also.

After they explained it to me and I realized the extra money is going to my creditors anyway I agreed to them. All it did was pay my debt off even quicker. Sure enough, when I upped the payment I got letters congratulating me from my creditors telling me what the perks would be

. They lowered my interest after one payment. After 3 months of payment (which you mentioned) they stopped the other fees and they made my past due account current again. You mentioned all of this in a roundabout way and seem to have heard only 1/2 of the requirements. From my understanding, Family Credit sent them a contract to pay a monthly payment amount and my creditors eventually agreed to the contracts. The letters the creditors sent me told me I would get all the perks I mentioned if Family Credit sent the amount on the contract every month until the debt is paid off. If this is true, how can they possibly lower the payment? Sounds to me like this would break the contract!

I'm not an expert, but I don't think its possible to have "the late charges current." My late charges had already happened and they stopped like the creditors told me they would. I think, with this kind og program, you get out what you put in.

They sent me a list of suggestions and things I needed to do to benefit myself. I still have the list of my obligations as a client. Sure, it did not go as smoothly as it was made out to be and it wasn't easy, but I was determined and I recently finished paying my last creditor and am waiting to get my first payment back. I see lots of bad press about these companies and I'm sure there are a few bad apples, but I am thankful for this company helping me get out of debt and all I can say is it worked for me.
