I WAS IN FAMILY DOLLAR IN GARY INDIANA ON 9/19/2008 I USED MY DEBIT CARD TO PURCHASE A CANDY BAR FOR MY GREAT GRANDCHILD, I GOT IN LINE TO PAY FOR THE CANDY. I SWIPED MY DEBIT CARD AND PUSH THE PROPMTS AS IT INSTRUCTED ME TO DO I ASKED FOR $ 10.00 CASH BACK WHEN THE MACHINE ASKED ME IF I WANTED CASH BACK. THE MACHINE IN FAMILY DOLLAR TOOK $ 10.64 CENTS FROM ME AND THEN DECLINED THE TRANSACTION AFTER IT TOOK MY MONEY, I ASKED THE MANAGER NAMED ROBERTA TO FIX IT AND GIVE ME MY MONEY SHE REFUSED, AND SAID SHE COULDNT DO ANYTHING UNTIL TOMORROW. I WENT BACK TO THE STORE AFTER SPEAKING TO ROBERTA ON FRIDAY TO GET MY MONEY CREDITED BACK TO MY CARD ON SAT WHICH WAS 9/27/2008 SHE REFUSED BECAUSE THE PRINT OUT FROM MY BANK EDITED OUT ALL, THE OTHER TRANSACTION BUT THE ONE FROM FAMILY DOLLAR. HER EXCUSE WAS SHE DIDNT KNOW IF FAMILY DOLLAR CREDITED IT BACK.
I GUESS I MUST BE STUPID CAUSE THERE WAS ONLY ONE TRANSACTION FROM FAMILY DOLLAR THE ONE THAT TOOK MY MONEY SO THE REST OF MY TRANSACTIONS AT OTHER STORES WAS NOT HER d**n BUSINESS AND I TOLD HER THIS. SHE THEN ASKED ME TO LEAVE THE STORE AND THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE. ON ME I TOLD HER TO CALL THEM BECAUSE FAMILY DOLLARS STOLE FROM ME. I DIDN'T STEAL FROM THEM AND I WANTED TO PRESS CHARGES ON HER a*s BECAUSE SHE ACTS AS AN AGENT FOR THEM SO CALL THE POLICE I SAID THEN SHE BACKED DOWN AND JUST ASKED IF I WOULD LEAVE THE STORE I STILL DONT HAVE MY MONEY AND I 'AM GOING TO CALL THE CORP OFFICE AND SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO AND DID I MENTION THAT I DROVE 62 MILES TO GET MY MONEY IT WAS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE THING AND SHE TOLD ME TO COME THERE AND I FEEL THEY ALSO OWE ME FOR MY GAS. AS WELL AS MY TIME

The reason they may have wanted more info is because if you had recieved the refund or got the item and wanted to keep it knowing the wole picture would have showed what they didn't really know unless it was the same manager. Maybe just have had the bank clear it up or the other employee that was present during the incident. They had to be able to contact their own workers. Also using a debit card when carried is much easier than going to a atm for most people.

First off, I don't see how one can say that a client is making stuff up by taking money out of there debit card from a company. all stores are different, your store could of been out of the loop at that time by not being able to have that option. Doesn't mean that what had happened to her, didn't take place. It just simply states, that it didn't take place at YOUR store.
One thing I would like to state is that, you have your "bad apple" employees, and then your "hard working" employees to which you are fair and reasonable. If something like that happened at my store, and there was something I couldn't figure out. I'd simply make a phone call for that customer to someone higher than me in rank. To show i'm willing to do my "job" as an employee and give back someones hard earned money. There's always a way to make things happen. Its the employees who actually give a crap who do it right.
In our policy, customer satisfaction is a big deal. To give them a round about with there own MONEY is just bogus. Sounds like that employee didn't follow procedure. Then again I wasn't there, so they could have and there is some information missing from this ladies statement.
I just find it quite humorous that people can judge someone for using there debit card on something under a buck. Come on...some people might not carry change/cash on them. I see it everyday. Its the way of life. Some do, some don't. Or if you wanted to pull out some cash as the lady tried to do, then purchase something "small" and pull out the money. I do it, that is the reason of purchasing something "small" at the last minute to pull out cash. That was a ridiculous question if you ask me, but each to there own.
Instead of driving so far away, you just keep making a complaint to corporate, and show proof of the purchase on ur statements. They should have sent you a gift card, refunding you. If not, then that area is corrupt. And what they pitch for "customer satisfaction" is a load of crap.
I've dealt with some crappy people in this line of business and seen alot whom of which has been corrupt. You either hit or miss the bad apples. In this case, it was a sucky situation. hopefully this doesn't happen again, if it does, make sure they call there Manager or there Managers boss "in front of you" and demand to talk to them. So you can give your whole story, and I bet you, you would see something taken care of. For they don't' want there name being tarnished.

Employees are Full of It-Period!

The two emplyees:
1. Michelle - Bimble (U.S.A.)
2. anna - demotte (United States of America)
Are both full of it.
Firstly who told them that a situation reported in another location that they do not happen to be at is not justified in being reported
Secondly who told them the information is not correct when they were not even present to be able to witness what took place
Thirdly they are employees but they are not at the location mentioned in the report
Fourthly they may be employees but they do not have that customer friendly approach in dealing with the situation at hand
This makes them full of it and their dissatisfaction with this report does not mean that the report is not worthwhile in its content or material that has been stated above!

i work for family dollar in a indiana store, and our store and all in our district give cash back (only on a debit purchase) in our district there is a $1.00 fee charged to the card and you can select $10, $20, or $40. i have many customers that like the option, not thrilled with the fee, but like the option of cash back.
i dont know which district you work in, but we accept credit, debit, checks, state cards (food stamps) and even travelers checks. in giving out information, please keep in correct.

One expensive candy bar...

First of all, WHY would you put a candy bar on your debit card? That's what cash is for...small purchases. Secondly, WHY would you drive "62 miles" to get a refund of $10 and change??? You say it's for the principle, but with gas hovering at $4 a gallon, you can BET I'd sit at home, make a mental note to never shop at Family Dollar and kiss the $10 goodbye...screw principle!

I think there is a misundestanding here

1. Not all Family Dollar stores accept credit or debit at this time.
2. NO Family Dollar stores that accept credit or debit allow cash back- the terminals do not even have this option.
3. Some (very few at this time, its just a pilot) Family Dollar stores have a third party ATM that allows you to withdraw money- this is NOT at the register.
If this absolutely did occur at a FD store, it would have had to be the third party ATM (which is not capable of facilitating FD purchases, it's an 3rd party and can't even talk to FD systems) that you had a problem with. the (let's be honest here) minimum wage retail/dollar store employee really couldn't do anything to help at that moment. He/She would have to go though corporate.
The 3rd party machine is clearly labeled as "not owned by FDS" and has an 800 number for service clearly displayed on the machine and receipt it generates.
If this did occur at a FD store, please contact corporate in Matthews (Charlotte area) North Carolina and they can track down the incident very quickly. If the employee truly did provide bad service, they will be disciplined as well.
One final point- I am a FD employee who worked on this pilot- we had "zero" complaints during the program and all machines performed flawlessly. This includes accurate account balances at the end of the day. I honestly believe you were at a different dollar chain.

I am not sure if the machines are different but the machines in our district DO NOT have an option for cash back or in any other district around here.
