I was phoned by a man saying it was very important that i return his call. It was to collect a debt.
I promptly returned the call and spoke with the rude man and he told me he was going to charge me with freud if i didnt pay him the debt i owed in full that day.
I told him I couldnt pay it all right then and I couldnt make a payment til the end of the month he said that isnt good enough and he said that if I dont get the full payment to him that he was going to have me arrested. He kept pressuring me on when I was going to have the money and rudly telling me it wasnt good enough that i needed to make payments.
I then told him on the 27th of July I would be able to get $300.00 and i couldnt get any more than that. He then got more rude and said if I didnt make arrangements that suited him he was going to send the debt through and have me arrested.
So on the July 26 he called me and was rude again and said he wasnt going to be in the office the next day and wanted the payment now. I couldnt make the payment as I told him the week before that i wouldnt have the money until July 27 .
So he then pressured me on when that day I was going to have it and when I was going to send it and gave me a mans name and told me to fax his co worker a copy of my information and a letter stating that I was taking care of a debt that I owed.
I then asked how much my debt was owed after the 300.00 payment I was about to make because I am on disability and he then stated that since im on disability that I only need to make a one time payment of 300.00 and my debt was taken care of.
Come to find out it was all a scam and now Im out 300.00 dollars and have children to take care of.

A lesson learned

I know this is a little like closing the barn door after the horses got out, but it is a lesson learned.
Any time someone demands you do something without a willingness to wait, or to be able to show you proof of the debt, then consider it a scam and hang up on them.
The fact that you agreed to pay them at all means you probably knew of an outstanding debt, but when they are rude, demanding and unwilling to even give you even a couple of days to raise the money should have raised some alarms. A reputable collection company would be willing to work with you towards resolving the debt. Also, having a disability would not result in a company gratuitiously agreeing to reduce the debt.
In the future, if you are ever unfortunate enough to get a similiar call, demand written proof of debt before you agree to paying any money, and refuse to make any payment over the phone. Agree to make payment by mail to a US address only.
If they say that a lawsuit has been filed against you, tell them that you therefore cannot talk to them until you have been properly and personally served. There is no lawsuit filed against you.
If they threaten arrest, tell them to send the police. The police do not get involved in civil matters and you will not be arrested.
Then rudely hang up on them.

Blame it on your mom

They're going to charge you with "freud"? That can be good or bad depends on how yo look at it. No matter what, blame on your mom and you'll be good.
