Financial Crime Protection Department Threats of immidiate arrest if not paid in full Houston Texas
*Consumer Comment: Thanx
*Consumer Comment: ITS PROBABLY BOGUS ANYWAY

*Consumer Comment: you cannot be arrested for a debt
This group called my wife and told her she had a debt from 2006, and if it was not paid right away she would have her info turned over to the authorities for her immidiate arrest.
There was never any attempt to collect any debt other than this.Just 3-4 harassing type phone calls over the course of a couple of hours.

Yes you can be arrested for writing a bad check
But from the op's situation seems that they got caught up in the scam that has been featured on ABC news -
Please contact bud hibbs - he has access to lawyers who handle these types of cases
My was such - I did not write a bad check but payed way more money than I owed on a payday loan - they took much more out of my account via electronic withdrawals than I owed (and I was stupid to even get one)
Please do not let them scare you cause they scared me till I talked to an attorney
Be strong
Stacey

They use the threats of arrest as a SCARE TACTIC only. Threatening to have you arrested is illegal.
As indicated in the previous rebuttal - Request validation of the debt. They cannot by law demand payment without providing proof that it is yours- if they say they will provide only after you pay they are breaking the law and cannot prove it anyway.
www.FTC.gov also has the laws and information and is the government Consumer website.

Stacey, there are exceptions to the rule:

1) You can be arrested for writing a bad check (Payday loans are usually not included in this law, as well as ongoing regular accounts)
2) If you fail to appear to a debtor examination after a judgment has been entered, you can have a warrant issued, and you could be arrested in order to force your appearance with the court.
But the rest of the advice is really good. This sounds like a payday loan collection method.

1 - Send a letter Certified Mail asking to validate the debt
2 - If you receive no verification send a Cease Communications letter via Certified Mail
3 - check with the Secretary of State to see if they are allowed to do collections in your State with or without a surety bond on file
4 - DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE
I dealt with one of these idiot agencies - filed suit and WON
Go to www.budhibbs.com - he has great info and is very helpful with third party collection agencies
Good luck and hang in there
