They offered me a car, in writing, for much less than it was worth. I took the deal and put down $3,000. While they kept putting off the paperwork, they finally sent it to my mother to be signed, and while she was sending it back they sold it. I think they were giving me the run around while they tried to sell it to someone else for more money.

Why would they have to send the contract to your Mother to sign?

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Are you of legal age to sign a contract? If not, you had no business buying a vehicle and signing a contract because you don't have the legal capacity to sign a contract.

If you are of legal age to sign a contract and you need your Mother to co-sign for the car, then its a good idea you didn't get the vehicle. Get yourself in better shape financially before you attempt to buy a vehicle that requires financing.

As to the $3000, did you actually give it to the dealer? Did you sign a contract? Get a receipt? If you aren't of legal age yet, you can use that reason to get a refund from the dealership. If they won't refund, take them to small claims court. You will need an adult to help you with this aspect for the same reason the dealer would have to return the funds to you.

If you are an adult, read the contract you signed when you turned over the funds. Was it a non-refundable deposit? What does the contract say?
