Fingerhut Aka Axsys National Bank Aka Nco Financial Systems Inc ripoff I Horsham Pennsylvania
*Consumer Suggestion: NCO Financial is notorious for making up debts
*Consumer Suggestion: Fingerhut did almost the same thing to me.
I received a collection notice and I am being charged 268.22 for something I never ordered. BBB was unable to help because the company says it is a valid purchase.
I have not lived at the address they report in 7 years. Not purchased by me. I have seen a lot of ripoffs listed on the Internet by this company.
I don't know how to protect my credit except to pay the money. Can anyone help?

NCO Financial is notorious for making up debts

Ronald--
NCO Financial is notorious for making up debts, and has been fined by both the FTC and state governments for violations of collection laws and the FDCPA. Here's what to do:
1) Send a certified letter, with return receipt requested, requesting verification of the debt. Tell them to send you the supposed contract you signed. (In your case, you may want to send it Express Mail or via fax, as you have a copy of the sent letter and/or fax receipt)
2) Also in the above certified/express mail/fax letter, state to them that you do not want phone calls at work, at home, and not to discuss the matter with other persons. If they violate this, they are in violation of the FDCPA and can be sued.
3) Contact a local attorney who specializes in consumer law. If unable to do so, ask the attorney for a referral to someone who does, or look on the Internet for an attorney who specializes in consumer law/debt collection.
4) Look at Bud Hibbs' website. He has an extensive listing of problems with NCO Financial.
Good luck Ronald!

Fingerhut did almost the same thing to me.

I had purchased a robe from them when I recieved it, it was too flimsy for the price so I called and complained and I asked for a return lable and they wouldn't provide one so instead of paying postage to return it I kept it and sent in a money order for the price of the robe + s&h it came to like 37.58 two years later I recieved a collection letter saying that I owe Fingerhut $375.80 ! well what I did to have it removed from my credit report is that I contacted each credit bureau (via the internet) and disputed the charge it was removed from my credit report within a very short period of time, within 30 days at least. so go that route and see what happens. good luck!
