First Premier Bank - Platinum MasterCard Through the web, it said I would get an answer in a minute, I wanted to find more info on card limit. $179.00 bill is on my hand Siux Falls, , South Dakota

Got the offer through regular mail..using the web, tryed to get more info about what credit limit and interest rates they had to offer. The only way is to fill out an application and get an answer in 60 seconds (acording to the page in question).

Next page I see, says that I've being aprooved and should get my card in a few days.

But guess what..I got the card, hoping to get at least a $4000 limit (since I do have good credit) with only a $400 limit,,with the paper attached to it, stating that this card is already activated and I have my first initial fee of $179.00.

What if the card would have being stolen in the mail..Already activated?

To be fair,

 I made a phone call to this company to fix the problem, and was attended by a very educated nice guy..No hassle, he understood my situation (I was looking for a lower interest rate, since one of my other cards just kept going up with their rates without any reason, and that one has a $5000.00 limit, so I needed about a $4000.00 limit) and he told me that they work as high as $400.00 and no more in order to help people fix or start building credit..He said "No Problem", He canceled and told me to ignore the bill, cut the card in little pieces and trash it..

I'm glad there's still some good people around...I Thank Him.

- First Premier is a SUB-PRIME card they do not send their credit card offers to people with "good credit".  Now, you may not have had horrible credit as their credit limits start at $250 and you got $400.  But if you seriously thought you were going to get a $4,000 credit limit you were just fooling yourself.


I noticed you said you went onto the web to get more information on the credit limit and interest rates.  I guess you missed the "Fee Disclosure" that they put with the Credit Card offer.  That disclosure has ALL of the fees and interest rates involved.  But as with other credit cards, they don't put any information on the credit limit you will receive(if any) because until they actually run your FULL credit report they do not determine that.


As for sending the card "activated".  They are apparently one of the last few remaining cards that do this.  You are correct it can be very dangerous, and can cause problems if the card is stolen.  But it is apparently the way they can assess that $179 fee right away.  Depending on how your credit actually is, you can often do better with a Secured Card or look around at other banks that do not charge a ton of fees up front.
