I went to Food city, in their new location at the middlebrook Pike location in Knoxville TN, Now Food City is a good company, But i believe that they do not know the fully extent of their management. As a matter of fact, it was a manager at this food city who never asked me to fill out a card Application,(club card) he simply asked" do you have a card" and i said no, so i figured that I did not need one for that sale, needless to say when I got home, I looked at my reciept and was charged $7 more than if I had a reciept..Now! if you are a manager, or if you work their, arent you suppose to ask someone to fill out a card, to get discounts, I have no Idea what the problem is, or if this racial,(I am not from this country) However the case, the club card is their for everyone to use, and a simple question of "sir do you want to sign up to save" was not instituted why, i dont know..you figure..this sucks, its like they choose and pick..everyone shound get the same chance, dispite their looks, apperance, race, or anything..give everyone a fair chance to save..I would never shop at food city again, I can live without $7 ,heck i can live without$700 dollars, its a simple priniciple involved..and it sucks to know that people just want to pocket a quick buck...

Some Advice

AUTHOR: Ken - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 10, 2010

While I feel for you in this situation.  The application, use, and allocation of the ValuCard's are not up to the employee's, the customer is 100% responsible for that issue.  What happened to you is unfortunate but just simple go into the store, go the the front office and ask for a ValuCard application; simple as that!

A note to others that shop Food City!  Please have your ValuCard re.ady for use before you approach the register, please have your method of payment ready as well. Do not hold up the line by making other customers and employees wait till you retrieve these items.

Thank you

This is ridiculous!

I know this report was posted 2 yrs ago, but I would just like to say that I am an employee at the headquarters for this Grocery chain. These cards are there for savings and also to help people with the coupons that they send out in the mail specifically for these stores. When you get a card and use it, it puts it in the system so that when the next coupon mailer goes out, YOU WILL RECEIVE COUPONS IN ADDITION TO YOUR SAVINGS WITH YOUR CARD!!!! As for the gentleman who made the complaint, YOU SIR ARE RIDICULOUS!!! Yes the manager should have asked you if you would have like to fill out an application, but have you any idea how many hours he may have worked that day? Maybe he was having an off day and wasn't feeling well. I'm sure that there have been days in your "work life" where you are not at your best. So please, drop the race card. It is such a copout for your adolescent behavior and attitude. The next time you are in a store and the cashier doesn't say "have a nice day sir". Are you going to throw yourself on the ground kicking and screaming like a 2 yr old at Toys R Us and then blame it on racism? Please, get a life and Grow Up!

Almost all supermarkets use these cards like you said. So why didn't YOU say "I need a card" Im sure hte person either A. figured you didnt want one, or B. Is lazy & didnt feel like having to fill one out. remember these people are working for 6 dollars an hour, most of them dont care of you save money or not, theyre there to pay for their car payment & college.

About the privacy thing, when Im away from home, Ill just ask the person in front of me if I could borrow their card. I used to work for stores that dont allow their employees to use their own cards, they need to all fill one out, thats why Ill just ask the customer in front of me.

First off, I did not say race played a part in this , I said if it was a possibility however, not the criteria for the card not being issued..And for you info, I used to work at Food City, as a matter of fact I worked in the supermarket industry for 4 years, So I know how the cards get distributed and it is always emphasized to do so..And for a manager not to even ask , it is questionable..Remember to ask or dont put the price the same, and Like I said I dident even realized until i got home..they put the savings price much bigger than the regular so when you pick an item up, what you see is the "club" price, therefore if you have a card thats the price you get..Another thing, most grocery stores normally scan a card at the register, if you dont have one..why was this not in any affect.

Just So You Know

One reason for the card is to give you a little discount, that keeps you coming back to that store. The second reason is to keep track of all your purchases, by type and amount. Now, what they do with that info, along with your personal info is anyone's guess, including who they "share" it with.

Why didn't you inquire as to where you could pick up an application after you said you didn't have a card?

Instead, you automatically assumed it had to do with your race.

There is a grocery store where I live that sounds like it has something similar. I don't bother filling out the application because I rarely shop there. Maybe it's possible that he didn't want to bother you with details if you didn't appear to be interested in it.
