The agent for Foremost Insurance was contacted by a person who lived in my small community, claiming to be family members. The insurance money for the lost goods in a household fire, amounting to $15,400.00 was sent to their house and they cashed the check. No proof was required, the agent just took their word for it, Foremost will not accept responsibility, nor give me my money which they gave to someone else.

This happened in Golden Valley, AZ. I was so badly burned, I spent a month in the critical care unit in Las Vegas. I could not write due to burns on my hands, and couldn't speak as I was intubated.

Insurance check

Wow! I hope you're recovering from the burns. So sorry to hear this.
I would request a copy of the insurance check--front and back-from the insurance company. Your agent should be able to do that for you. If not, call the insurance co directly.
Your state must have a department that oversees insurance companies/agents. Contact them and let them know the situation. Most states will also have a consumer advocate who will assist you, for free, with handling of the situation. You can probably google "department of insurance" for your state to find the contact information.
This is a terrible thing to happen on top of being injured. Your agent should never have allowed the check to be mailed to someone other than you without your written consent to do so. The agent really dropped the ball on their responsibility to you. And, the insurer should be investigating this as insurance fraud on the part of the person who cashed the check rather then washing their hands of the whole thing.
This makes me sick.
Good luck to you
