I am an extremely rare flyer, so I guess I am not supriszed at this. I booked a flight through Kayak/Orbitz on Frontier Airlines. I have heard a great deal about hidden fees and travel restrictions, i.e. baggage limitations. As a result, I went over the available information in some detail that was available before committing to the flight.

I did find infromation about the limitations on carry on baggage and personal baggage. I wrote these dimensions down and compared them with my intended baggage. At no point did I see anything suggesting there would be a fee for the privilege of carrying my own baggage on the plane. Now, after the web site gave me the ability to choose seating locations I notice the confirmation is marked available seating. This is a frustrationbut a lesser problem. At any rate, I decided to go to FlyFrontier.com  to see about seating arrangements. In spite of offering me a choice of seats it is clear that will not happen. As I said, this is a frustration but a lesser one. What really got me was it spelledout that there were four different carry on baggage charges, depending on certain circumstances.

Of course, I realized I had fallen into the hidden fee trap promised by the media. Now, with a non-refundable reservation, I just wanted to clearly find out what exactly I needed to do to minimize this extra charge. Need I say I was already prepared to express my disappointment with the before the committment information.

Like most on line companies it took a great deal of time and "page turning" on Frontier's web site to find anything remotely resembling some place to gripe a little and get an answer to my questions. Finally, I found their telephone number, a hint of a human, but the only thing vlose was their reservation number. Needless to say, after a lengthy conversation with a machine I was not allowed to get to a human. My only choices did not get me to the point of asking my questions, or my dissatisfaction with the after the sale charges.

As for Frontier's rebuttal I can guess what they will have to say. Did I read their lengthy and various on line pages of legalese where somewhere deep in the body of this these fees were pointed out? No, I did not. Perrsonally, I find it obscene that the lawyers are allowed to cover anything and everything in these "agreements" that no one reads.

When it is all said and done, I wanted to send a similar email to Frontier, but, of course, finding an email address for a customer complaint at Frontier is no different than just about any other on line company. You just can't find where to send a complaint, or for that matter, I have with some regularity wanted to do this also, send a suggestion.

Thank you RipOffReport  for being out there allowing some sort of satisfaction in blowing off some steam about that much heralded trap of air line after the sale fees.

Final update (I think)

AUTHOR: Terry - ()

POSTED: Sunday, September 08, 2013

OK! I think I am at the end of this challenge. I continued to do some digging and found a web site, www.farecompare.com. I did discover that my "personal bag" will not incur a fee for carry on. That means I will have one unexpected luggage fee in each direction of the round trip. Supposedy, I can limit this fee to $20.00 by using web check in, that is on line baggage checking. Right now, I can't find how to do that on FlyFrontier.com. So, I will have to wait until tomorrow, Monday, to talk to a human and figure out how to do that. Assuming all ends up as expected I can dispense with this saga and add nothing more.

All in all, as I said at the beginning I am a highly infrequent flyer. This was a very unpleasant flying experince, for me, and I haven't even gotten to the airport yet. I have had my concerns about the perceived problems with flying and this far exceeds those concerns.

Hopefully, signing off, Terry

Frontier airlines hidden fees

AUTHOR: Terry - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 07, 2013

It is the next day, after filing this report it occured to me that not only would I have to pay a fee to carry my bag on the plane but they may also charge a fee for carrying on my briefcase. Wouldn't that be abso, lutley the end. So, I decided to try FlyFrontier.com again to get to the bottom of these fees. First, after some additional searching I did find how to supposedly get to a human. This was, like most everything on their site, seriously buried and this option was not presented on their phone line. I will have to wait until Monday since they only answer this line during normal business hours.

Second, I went and recreated an on line order to once again try to find where they spelled out additional fees. I will say, once again after additional serious digging, I did find this inforation prior to confirming the tickets. The bottom line is I feel I am stuck with what looks like at least an additional $80.00 in fees. This could be more, a lot more, if these fees appliy to each leg of the flight. (There is a plane change in Denver.)

Further, these fees will be increased if I choose to carry my briefcase on board instead of checking it. I am curious to know what the fee will be for carrying my e-reader on board. Incidentally, I find it interesting that Frontier, maybe all airlines are like this, is more than willing to work with the various web sites that assist them in obtaining bookings. At the same time, they seem to have decided to stick it to the consumer if you do use a site like Orbitz. The carry on fee is less if you book direct on FlyFrontier.com and more if you book some other way.

All in all, I feel, in honesty, I have to rescind this Rip Off. I am not happy with Frontier, not happy at all; and I haven't even made it to the airport yet. The fact is, in spite of what I considered a diligent search for hidden fees, those fees were out there prior to committing. I feel "over a barrell" on this one and responsible for paying. That will e a shame if these fees put the costs of travel out of my meagre budget. (I am a senior living only on Social Security.) There is the possibility that Frontier will recognize my plight and cancel the booking. For that matter, I am going to notify Master Charge if I decide the tickets will not be used. In either case, if I do get some satisfaction I feel obliged to post those results.

Thank you to those of you who have listened to my diatribe,
