I have been paying off my credit card balance religiously--on time via automatic deductions--for years.

I made the May payment on time.  Apparently I missed an announcement about a 'special promotion' ending in May and incurred a $2229.40 interest charge.

I called GE Capital and was told to write a letter explaining the situation to the Orlando address and to contest the interest charge.  I did.  I also included a payment of the entire principle $2759.67.   GE cashed the check, deposited the 2759.67 and continued to charge me the interest.   I did not hear from anyone and when I called, I was told to write another letter to the Orlando office.

In my letter I explained the discrepancy, refused to pay the interest charge and stated the the check represented PAYMENT IN FULL on the account and asked to escalate the 'issue' for review within GE.

Nothing.   Now the interest continues to accumulate, there is no response from GE and I have no idea what to do next.   Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

I strongly recommend that no one do business with this organization.  I can be contacted at grannyknowsalot at gmail dot com with suggestions...I sincerely hope GE Capital is willing to rectify this situaiton.

Granny may know a lot, but she has a lot to learn about credit cards. You were under an introductory rate that expired. If you don't pay off the balance by the expiration date, you will be charged all of the accrued interest. This was explained to you when you signed up for the credit card in the first place. You SIGNED a contract agreeing to these terms.

They gave you a friendly reminder in your may statement, that you did NOT read and ignored until your june statement showed all the interest that you agreed to. They won't take the interest off, they have a contract that you signed authorizing the interest. You owe it because you did not pay off your balance by the agreed date. There is no ripoff here, if you had paid your balance in full by the agreed upon date you would have no interest charges.

You may think you can dictate terms to these banks, but you cannot. They have a written contract, signed by you, that lays out ther terms they follow. You don't get to change the terms as your see fit.
