If you thought shopping at Gelson's is all about getting premium quality foods you're misguided. In fact the store's no better than other grocery stores with policies about food handling like Ralphs and the like grocery markets.

If you want to save money on quality groceries, Gelson's is a poor choice. Eg. the grapes that cost $6.99 at Ralphs will cost you $10.99 at Gelson's. Or sandwitch that's not as delicious as company claims will cost from $8.99 & up. whilst more nutritious sandwitches at Albertsons, Jons cost $5.99 and up. Is there any difference in quality? NO! Only the price and tricky presentation called "facing" which increases tendency of the oblivious customers to buy the stuff. Other stores also do some facing, but their groceries aren't overpriced.

The reason why people still buy overpriced groceries because Gelson's branches in affluent areas where rich people live. Some customers at Gelson's don't even bother to keep the recepit while making over $1000 purchases. Other's have no choice because of the local convenience. But the good news is that competitors open up stores not far from Gelson's as a better alternative.

Maybe people think that Gelson's has high standards on food handling, therefore it's safer. But in reality it's not so. It's just like everywhere else, some workers don't do the right thing.

eg. I've seen a produce clerk dropping blueberries on the floor. He picked them up put them back into the container and on to a sales shelf. And it's during covid.

Some employees have been complaining that Gelson's is not as good as it used to be after someone has acquired the business; it became more careless about employees that cared for the integrity of the products and the company.. The company has a poor leadership. Many caring workers resigned.  This is no longer Gelson's it used to be, and I'm just scratching the surface.

Gelson's exploits the fact that the business has been existing for over 100 years to convey that it's a reliable place to shop and maybe courteous. It's not so. Even if you've been shopping there for a long time, you still can get a rude service and eighty-sixed. The caring for the customer isn't genuine majority of the time.

There are plethora of reasons why Gelson's doesn't live up to it's standards like it was. To make it short, if you get a rude customer service after shopping there for a long time, give them an online review. Spread the word about your experience.
