GoDaddy is engaging in an unethical, deceptive, bordering on criminal business practice. As some class-action lawsuits have alleged, they make a lot of their money the easy way.

We purchased a domain name through them and when given the option to "renew annually" for five years we selected that with the understanding they would bill us each year (hence "annually") for up to five years. Although this may not have been the "correct" interpretation as we were later told, this was our understanding based on a literal reading of what their website said.

Nowhere does it say on the webpage they will charge you all five years up front (by definition, NOT annually). On the Annual Renewal Settings page, it says nothing about payments, nor are users redirected to a checkout page, as is normally the case.

The first indication there is even a charge associated with the setting is on our bank statement, for which they also told us there is no way to get a refund! The representatives we spoke to on the phone also acknowledged that it does not give any indication or warning of the charge.

GoDaddy's representatives offered a lot of excuses though none seemed to justify what appears to be blatant greed in NOT telling customers they will be immediately charged over $100 for *merely* changing a setting. I highly doubt they will rectify this as it is probably one way they make a lot of money, even if it is highly unethical.

This is a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen. Do NOT do business with them, unless you're OK with being robbed.

I have to stand with Godaddy

AUTHOR: Auto dealer fraud Investigator - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, March 20, 2017

The reason I have to stand with Godaddy is because you have probably got your account set up for auto renew call them up and ask them to explain the status of their renewal policy with your account.  Yes the people that work at Godaddy on occasionally talk to their clients that be YOU about auto renew because they make money when that happens and that's totally understandable.

A simple phone call to a account representative Kim change that the reason that they do that is to make sure that you don't lose any of your important domain names if you forget to renew the ownership of a certain domain name that you do not want to lose.  All you have to do is make a simple phone call..
