Gold's Gym of Valley Ranch Texas (now operating  as "Impact Fitness") took me to collections for membership fees I no longer owe. After deciding to cancel my gym membership in Valley Ranch, Texas in January of 2015, I went in person to speak with the Gym about how to do the cancellation process.

I signed cancellation paperwork and paid a final amount of $60.12 in order to cancel.  Upon completing the process, I was given a "Membership Cancellation Form" showing my signature and confirming the cancellation of my membership in writing. I made a final payment via credit card, and I was told that I owed them nothing further. They gave me a receipt.

Several months later, I received a collection notice in the mail claiming I still owe them $43.00!!!  I was beyond upset, and felt that some kind of scam must be going on. I went in person to the Gym and spoke with the only employee at the front desk about the situation. WWhen I arrived at the Gym, I noticed that the name of the gym was changed to Impact Fitness--very suspicous!! The employee that I spoke with said that MANY other gym-members were complaining about the same issues--they cancel their membership in writing and then the gym either doesn't process, looses it or continues to try to charge them money, and then takes you to collections to fraudulently squeeze additional money out of you. If you google this, you will see that this is going on across the country for years with Gold's Gym.

I have since disputed the debt with the Collections agency, and provided them with the receipt and membrship cancellation form. The Credit Agency just wrote me back saying that I still owe the money!!! They obviously didn't even investigate it or perhaps they are in bed with Gold's/Impact as part of this scam. I have also written Gold's a formal letter disputing the debt , but my letter was "returned to sender" and "Vacant" was written on the envelope. I suspect GOld's/Impact Fitness just tries to dodge these issues becuase they are running a scam.   I hav also left voicemails for Andre Reed, the membership services manager for this location of GOld's and he NEVER returns my calls.

I would love to initiate a class action lawsuit against these scammers, so that this type of membership fraud and extortion doesn't happen to future gym members. In the meantime, I have submitted a complaint about this on the Texas State Attorney General website, Experian Credit, and the Better Business Bureau.
