I submitted my resume to this company via Craigslist responding to a post they had placed for an administrative assistant position. As I normally do, I researched the company and every thing seemed up to scratch, and so I was pleased when I got a reply email from a man who identified himself as the President of Greenville Promotions stating that he had reviewed my resume and would like for me to schedule an interview with his assistant "right away" so we can discuss the job aspects. Naturally, I called right away... and no body answered the phone. Even more strangely, there was no voicemail box to leave a message, and nothing about the answering machine that identified the company. It sounded like a typical cell phone that anyone of my friends or family might have had they not known how to set up voicemail. I tried calling back again a few minutes later after re-checking the number. Still no answer. I thought to myself, "Well, this is odd. And very unprofessional," and didn't think too much about it after that.

Much to my surprise, I recieved a phone call the next day from a number that I recognized (from my repeat attempts at contacting this company) as being from Greenville Promotions. The woman on the phone identified herself as being the "Executive Assistant", Shantell, that I had been asked by this company's president to get in touch with. Being as I had already developed a lax opinon of this company, based soley on their unprofessional phone answering system, I asked this girl expressedly if this was a position that required me to be on a head-set (working in a call center is not my bag) or if this was a canvassing position (going door-to-door) in any way, shape or form. She assured me it was not with a snort, "Uh, no. We don't do that." Feeling more optimistic about this company than I had the day before, I agreed to an interview at 11:00 the following Friday.

I want it to be known that I got a manicure/pedicure, had my hair done and put on panty-hose in the middle of June for this interview, so I was none-too-pleased when I showed up to their "office" (if you can call it that) to find the most unprofessional looking woman sitting behind a broken down desk, with her bleach-blonde roots half grown-out (not intentionally, I'm sure), wearing a peasant blouse that STILL somehow managaed to have her b***s showing (how she accomplished that, I'm sure I don't know) and a muffin-top over a cheap polyester skirt, wearing what can only be described a suede, black, platform stripper shoes that she evidently had not had much practice walking in. I assume this was the famous Shantell, but I'm not sure. She had no name tag, no desk topper, not even a shred of identifying material as to the personell or the business itself, and didn't have the courtesy to introduce herself. Instead she played on her iPhone and filed her nails. I filed out the application the handed me, and told her that I had, indeed, brought a copy of my resume as was requested in my interview appointment confirmation e-mail, and took a seat next to some rough-looking strangers to fill this out. After I turned it back in, I waited until 11:45 before I was finally called in for my interview -- 45 minutes late -- which afforded me pleaty of time to become thouroughly sketched out by this alleged 'place of business', taking in the disgusting carpet, and generic office artwork. I had decided before going in that I didn't want anything to do with these people.

So then the President, Andrew, calls me in. He is a short, Hispanic fellow with a goatee (nothing wrong with that inherently, but just wait) who sits me down in his crappy little office and explains to me that this is a 1099 job selling some sh*t-brand of make-up I've never heard of called "Make Up Esssential" that looks like the beginners kit make-up you buy for 5 and 6 year old girls for their first sleep over parties (and BELIEVE me... I KNOW make-up) not "door-to-door" he said, but "business-to-business". I had EXPRESSEDLY told them I had no interest in this type of work AT ALL and was furious at this collosal waste of time. Long story short, do not apply to this company thinking you'll find real employment. This is a scam and a waste of time. I am mostly upset that I wasted my resume paper. Both the President and his Executive Assistant are morons with no class or brains, and how this little Hispanic dude knows ANYTHING at all about make- up, much less business courtesy at all is beyond me. Save yourself the time and move past this company. They are not what they advertise themsevles to be.
