I too was a victim of Hankook Tire and their "lost submission" business practices. They create the rebate form so that they have complete deniablility when they choose to not honor their rebates.  This is a huge marketing program for them and I can only imagine how many other people where tricked into buying their tires because of a rebate they never inteneded to honor.

hankook tire does not honor rebates

AUTHOR: TORONTO1 - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, August 20, 2012

After 4 months i am still waiting for my $40 rebate.  THe phone calls end up nowhere, the emails are not responded to.  I hate to see what will happen if my tires have an issue if they cannot even contact you without a product complaint.  I think they use it as a gimmick to get people to buy their tires knowing that afterward they will not be honoring rebates.  Poor customer service and poor loyalty.

I was contacted by Hankook direct to make a "special exception".

However, I have yet to see the check.

Mail in rebates.

Ever wonder why a manufacturer doesn't just lower the price of a product, instead of going through all of the mail in rebate malarky?   Now you know.      They do not expect everyone who is elegible for a rebate to actually complete the process.     If too many customers do complete the process, they have the option of claiming it was "lost in the mail".   Since you have to remit original documentation, that pretty much gets them off the hook for payment.

While some companies actually pay the promised rebate, many don't and there is no guarantee.   In addition to the "lost in the mail" deniability, rebate processing is usually farmed out to third party companies and the manufacturer will not get involved if there is a problem.

That's why I think making purchase decisions based on mail in rebates is for suckers.
